Hey guys, just doing my normal morning routine...cup of coffee, a smoke, and browsing through iboat's forums (God I love this site! lol) and I came up with a sort of random question that goes with a story...
So here goes, my wife and I have been together for 13yrs, married for 9 and have three boys (10yrs, 6yrs, and 10months). Now, ever since about the 2nd or 3rd month after we started dating, I have always said I found me a redneck woman.. now my 'famous' saying is I married an even bigger redneck than me! lol So anyhow, my wife has always been, what I call, a 'dock fisherman' (ultra-light pole, 4lb. test, and a shiny hook.. drop over the edge of the dock and reel in little blue-gill all day), but she never much mentioned anything about going with me when I would head to the local lake to go fishing, mainly top-water bass fishing there... So about 3yrs. ago, my dad and I ended up getting a 17' Tracker deep-v and started fishing together a lot. Still, my wife never mentioned anything to me about me and her going out fishing on it.
Now, jump to about 2 weeks ago, my folks went out on the tracker together, and my wife and I, and our two oldest boys took my tri-hull out. We had pretty much just gone down to run up and down the river a little bit, but being the guy I am, I ALWAYS take at least one rod/reel and tackle box, stowed away JUST IN CASE lol. Anyhow, just so happened that this day I had taken two of my rods, along with my oldest boys gear. So, after meeting up with my folks on the river, bs'ing for a little bit, we left them and headed down-river a little farther, where I decided to go ahead and slow her down and try a little trolling (more so to 'test the waters' on how my oldest boy would do sitting there holding his pole while we put around so that I could judge how well he would do with the 'boredom factor'). Well, low-and-behold, my wife asks if I brought a spare pole for her to use. I just kinda laughed a little, until I realized she was serious.
So, I hand her my spare, pull out my tackle box and start to show her different lures used for trolling. I told her to pick out which color she wanted to run, and that either a hot-n-tot or shadrap would be best. Well, wouldn't ya know it, by this time I had been trolling for almost an hour without so much as a hit... she drops a red/black/silver hot-n-tot in, runs it out, closes the bail and about 2 minutes later, lands a 10-12" small-mouth.... I was really excited for her, and she was too.... So here it is, about 2 weeks after that day, and I have spent close to $300 on fishing gear for her! lol She now has her own nice rod/reel combo, soft-sided tackle box, and a slew of new crank baits.
Sorry this is so long-winded, as I usually am, but if you've read this far, then obviously your a fisherman/woman as well and enjoy a good family fishing story. So after this 20 minute read, my question is how many of you guy's out there have wives/girlfriends that enjoy fishing as much as you do?
