Always, always and did I say always hit www.amazon.com for all of your shopping needs! :D

Most often you can't even buy the item in your store cheaper and the shipping is a very fare price. and can be fast as one to two days. They also have free shipping if you can wait for 5 to 9 days.

If you look up a item and it shows "this item sold by 5 sells" look to see if one of the sellers is Amazon.com and use them if you have a choice. It is like buying with a satisfaction guarantee from them.

42 hours later and I have my mask.

42 hours later and I have my mask.

This mask is to cool for school! It came with an instructional video on how to properly use and clean the mask. Once you put the mask on you turn the silver nose piece to tighten the mask to your head by pulling on the plastic head brace over your head.. To remove it you just pull the silver nose piece and it lets go of your head.

Note: you can wear it with your glasses on. No need to buy an extra peice to wear them like other masks.

OK! Back to work now!

heck, with a tyvek suit, you are completely covered sans feet and hands- and those are easy to cover!

Very nice. I'll have to get me one of them ;)

Re: I would like to introduce myself, and talk about my rebuild.

Well guys look at the link to amazon if your going to buy one . A little over 44 dollars for the mask can not be beat. This price is only for the large the small is around 95 to 100 dollars. I large will fit most peoples heads I think.

Redfury,
As far as you saying a about getting a suit. I seen in one of the threads, someone posted something like ?to fully enjoy the fun of fiber glassing and to appreciate the experience you have to do it in short sleeves and short pants.?

Well I wear long sleeves and long pants BUT one of the benefits of my disabilities (illness) is that I don?t have much feelings left in my body. I am num over about 20% of my body (at one time it was 90%) but I have got some feeling back.

My arms only have feelings on the under part of my four arm the rest don?t feel nothing. My legs don't have much if any at all left.

Soooooo I don?t have to worry about the itchy stuff I just smile and grind away some more.

But back to task. I think this mask is great for the money and just makes a person so much more better looking while wearing it.
Get you one!!!:D

P.S.
They don't come with a filter you buy that seperat, but you don't have to get 10 at a time you can get two at a time. Be sure to buy the right filter.

Hey Rick,

First... All things considered (you're Mom's passing and all) I hope you find some peace this Thanksgiving...

About what Red was saying about the Tyvek suit... Listen to him man... Even if you can't feel the itching, that doesn't mean that old poly and glass aren't wreaking havoc with you're skin and organs. I used to skip the suit and dress as you describe. After a while I'd wake up with a sort of whole body hangover. (And I hadn't even been drinking... Much.) Seriously, don't mess with the dust from glass and goo... It's a witches brew.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

Don?t you know it?s Thanksgiving day today!!!! Turkey, turkey, turkey!!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Rick Butler

Stoutcat,
Boy this is like having 100's of big brothers looking out for me!
Thank you for the kind words and the warning. Me and my sister & her husband are going over to a friend?s house for dinner tonight. That will be nice for a lot of reasons.

I?m doing all right with things everything considered. Still a lot of legal paperwork and arrangements that have been done, and have to be done yet. My sister is having a hard time with it. She was my mom?s care giver for the last 12 years and lived with mom and was really, really even more close to mom because of that, if you know what I mean.

I am the rock of the family and am the practical one that has to help keep things on track as far as what to do next. We both had a lot of financial difficulties before this and more so now. But I have always have more distractions from life, so to speak like working on my boat right now. Or trying to, I still have not been able to get back to it even though I have the mask now. It seems like it?s one thing after another that I have to take care of first. But still I open the garage door and look at the boat and that gives me things to think about like what to do next. That helps to keep my mind off of the less fun things in life for awhile.

My sister lives in moms house and don?t have any hobbies and don?t work so she has all the reminders around her daily. With this and her being the executer of the estate she has to go through all of moms things and do what is needed to be done with them.

Even this forum is an escape for me reading and writing. I looked up the suits at Amazon and with shipping they are more expensive than home depot. At home depot they are just under 10 bucks each. Will one suit last for a job if taken care of and being carful using it? I?m not sure if they rip easy or not. If they do rip can they be fixed with duck tape?

Re: I would like to introduce myself, and talk about my rebuild.

If you are careful, they will last more than one time if you remember to blow yourself off with compressed air, otherwise the point of it will be moot when you put it on again and scrape off all the glass dust onto your skin getting into it.

It's made out of the same material they wrap homes with now, so it's durable ( it has to withstand being the exterior of the home until it is sided, which means it has to withstand wind, rain, etc ) Whatever the material it is made of, its kind of like CSM in the way that it's "woven". That makes it flexible, but easy to tear.

You may want to look at a place like http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200308055_200308055

I think by the case they are even less....if I remember, it's 75 bucks for a case of 10...maybe more.

Re: Happy Thanksgiving

Rick! The ones I used years ago ripped fairly easy. Mostly when I would squat down to work on something the seat would rip. max!

Max,
Would that be because you exceeded the Maximum PSI?
Or more aptly put the ?Maxum 247? pounds allotted by OSHA?

Some advice needed, Please.

Some advice needed, Please.

Well I got up at 2am to get started on my boat this morning. I turned it over to clean then grind the bottom in prep for repair work. Here is what I found.

012-5.jpg

1. The outer layer of glass is delaminating from hull.

007-3.jpg

2. Center ridge is in very poor shape.

019-2.jpg

3. A few new holes found.

009-5.jpg

4. Spider web cracks.

017-2.jpg

5. Also lateral stress cracks in FG running half length of boat. Mostley in gel coat but worried it goes into FG.

015-3.jpg

What would be the best way to repair all of this?
Should I do individual patches?
Should I do patch work and then a full layer over the bottom?
What are your suggestions?

I know I will need to do both sides and most of the strength repair work will be done on the inside of boat.

What I am not sure on is the amount of work needed done on outside of boat. Full length, half length, here & there, single patch work.

Re: I would like to introduce myself, and talk about my rebuild.

looking good rick.

I am waiting to see what the experts say about those issues as well.
my take was to patch from the inside, then put a whole new layer inside (like oops) then fare the outside back smooth.

but like you, I am waiting to see what the experts say.

this is the best course I have ever taken. and we can all learn from each other. love this place and the guys/gals that inhabit it. i feel like your all buddies and we should meet for beer.. then i remember.. you all live thousands of miles from me.

Re: I would like to introduce myself, and talk about my rebuild.

hi rick....sorry ive been absent from this one for a bit....i see santa dropped some glass down your chimney :D.......i boaters are cool

i really have issues with the glass de-laming on the keel....not good bat man.

you need to grind off the glass till the de-lam is gone......try not to go thru the hull.........then at least one layer of 1708 on the outside and one on the inside.....what ever you take off....you have to put back on

ok....now you need to fix the hole and get the shape.....since the boat is upside down.....lets tackel the bottom first

there is two ways id suggest to repair the hole......

1. mix up a batch of oops super dooper peanut butter....(structural) and fill the hole.....when tring to fill the hole....just try to get the shape of the keel......(thats what you are trying to do is just get the shape)....when its cured....sand till the shape is there.

after you have the shape......do 2 layers of csm over the entire keel and a layer of thin woven product over that.....then another layer of csm and a final layer of woven......(that thin finely woven stuff at wally world will do just great)

then proceed with the rest of the bottom hull repair.

the other way.......

use expanding foam as a form.....sand it till you get the shape.....then use packing tape or tuck tape over the foam......(over the foam only)....after its tapped.....use an exacto knife and cut all excess tape off....(just tape the foam....not the glass)

then glass as above.

ok.....now that we have a glassed shape.....you will need to fair in the hard edge of the glass job........(thats gonna be fun :()

after the hull is flipped....(sand the peanut butter so you will have a smooth area...(not too thick) to glass to with out air bubbles....no sharp edges or ridges.
then glass the stuffings out of it......at least 2 layers of 1708....its the keel and you want it strong.......go wider than you ground off......
actually....you might want to do an entire interior hull wrap with at least 2 layers of csm.

i hope this made sence

cheers
oops
