As far as I know, 32 degrees or less = chance for cracked block.

That's pretty difficult to say. We get years here in Michigan where it snows in October and you'd want the boat winterized early.

Some folks use small heaters to keep the block above freezing temps for late season boating.

*Sigh*

I know... I just gotta pay attention and make my own call. Humph.

Dude, you are giving EZ so much ammo right now! He has to be lovin it.

Yah, I am thinking watch the weather/temps very close and an electric heater might be the way to go until you have her properly winterized.

I think I might be in right about the same spot myself. Over the next month or so I'd really like to get mine fired up if I can.:)

A couple 100 watt lightbulbs in the engine compartment might be enough to keep her warm enough too.

DJ, that's brilliant....far less juice than a heater. and if you used spotlight bulbs and aimed em at the relevant areas of block, you could keep things nice and warm, given the miniscule space. esp if you added some insulation over the doghouse

Granted I don't have to deal with the extremes like most of you but mine sat outside the first part of this year so I wanted to protect the block. I hooked these up together. Cleaned off a spot on the oil pan a stuck the small pad on it and made sure the "Thermo Cube" was in the cold air...not in the doghouse.

If you need alittle more heat than a light bulb... try a heat lamp used for keeping newborn livestock warm. they thread into a light bulb socket and man do they kick off the heat!

Yeah I've thought about something like that, but I'd only feel secure about that if I could walk outside and verify it's working. The boat isn't at my house, it's ten miles away (at my old house) so it's not convenient to check on it multiple times a day when the temps drop.

I think I'm just gonna set a limit of two to three more weeks and keep an eagle eye on the forecast. I'm not gonna risk the second motor! If I can't splash it before the cold winds blow, I'm just gonna grit my teeth and winterize it. I'll be frustrated, but I'll sleep better.

Accuweather doesn't forecast any temps below 48 for the next two weeks....

Ya know Papa, you could always let one of us southern boys take care of it for you during the winter:p

Or you could hook up one of those thingamajigs everyone is suggesting, but my warped mind would try to hook up a thermostat too so it only works when needed.;)

Yeah I should keep it at NB's house! Maybe it would come back painted!

You said thermostat - I was thinking of that, plus a system that sends me a text message with the internal motor temperature every hour.

OOOooooo, that's good thinking! Course, he still gets plenty of winter down there.

If you keep it at CBK's place, no winter! He could run your rig for a while, have all the bad stuff happen, git it out of her system, then you'd be ready to go in the spring!!:D

Heart you CBK!

Yah, I may post early but you'll also probably notice I don't pop up much past about 8:30-9:00 either. We are in our mid 30's but we find ourselves eating dinner with the blue hair crowd a lot:eek::eek:

Early to be early to rise!:)
