Hey mag, what was that alum cleaner called again? Milk pipe cleaner was it? Where do they sell that stuff? Does it eat through anodizing? Thanks man:)

Maximizer, seems to eat through everything, right down to bare alum. My local paint shop has it as does the local semi parts supplier. I have got the feeling it is watered down Muratic acid based on the job it will do to concrete if not watered down before contact I believe milk pipe cleaner is similar, have not used it personally!

Cool thanks man. My rub rail channels are kinda dirty so I thought I may try it but I don't think I want to go through the anodizing ya know.

Since you mentioned anodizing, does anyone know where or who can do it on larger pieces?

So I figured before finishing interior paint I should get the transom and bracket fitted. Lots of holes to drill in a perfectly hole free transom. It is also time to figure out the interior bracing, here we go!
Dropped my transom wood in and then used a forklift to hold up the bracket and drilled a couple holes and bolted it up to hold it

Hanging on its own

Went inside the hull with the transom skin from "ol 69"

Now I marked all the holes and removed the bracket to make it easy to drill them, I am using 3/8"x3" stainless bolts so I drilled the holes two drill bit sizes bigger to give me a little room for error. Time to move on to bracing the transom inside.
And one more pic of the fit with the bottom of the hull, cavitation plate on a 25" shaft motor should be even with the bottom of the bracket

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

So I want this to be strong as possible and transfer the forces to the hull via the "omc stringer" stringers Starcraft put in the hull. So I started with a piece of 2x2" 1/4" wall tube horizontally
100_1452.jpg

I had predrilled holes along the line for the brace and then I marked the brace and used a 1/4 20 drill tap to thread them in
100_1454.jpg

Next I added two vertical braces and drill tapped them 3/8 16, 3 holes a piece, bolts go through the bracket, transom and into the braces.
100_1455.jpg

100_1456.jpg

Now my plan is to lay tubes on top of the stringers and bolt through them, when it is all fitted I am going to weld it all together and make the braces one piece, also will be welded to the inner transom skin. Should be freaking rock solid!!!!
Got a little more planning to do before it is done, then tear it all apart and seal holes, paint the mating surfaces and caulk and reinstall. This for me is the crux of this project and I am happy to see it coming together!:)

MD - That's one tough looking set up. Old 69 is gonna live forever. Well parts of her anyway.

Than a hook and loop backer, pad combo, similar to scotch brite, used this red (medium) and a blue (fine)

I use the hook and loop 3M surface conditioning pads too and they're badazz!

That maroon pad is just a little heavy for aluminum and you have to be careful with it. They make a heavier brown pad that is too heavy for aluminum but will take rust off of steel like a hot knife through butter.

Thanks, coming together nicely I think!

Definitely requires a soft touch, I have some marks in the Alum. In the big scheme of things it will be fine!

Hey, everything is looking great!!

I've also been motivated with the cooler weather and may need the rivet gun back in the next week or so. Mailbox drop off is fine....
