Re: Mechanical aptitude test

90% but I don't know which ones I got wrong. #48 had 2 right answers. Both the suction of the piston going down and atmospheric pressure cause air to go into the cylinder.

Re: Mechanical aptitude test

Anybody ever actually have to do an aptitude test to get a job? I've had to do a few. One I flunked cause I'm color blind. The other was basic seamanship which got me my first job in the Coast Guard at 17 yrs old.

Re: Mechanical aptitude test

I had to take one to get a Machinist job at Reynolds Aluminum in 1973. I also have to go back and take that test again. 80% sucks, but it was taken late last night after 7 beers and fighting salted out/rounded heads of the bolts holding the block to the mid on a 1961 5 1/2 Johnny..I need to get at the DS seal. ..2 to go, but they might see the tip of my torch.
One more coffee, and I'll try again. I didn't see anywhere where it would tell ya what ya missed, just Exit, and it was gone.

Edit...OK, did it again..much better, found out how to get the answers this time. Still lousy on electrical, got the fan wrong, forgot the on the (Q15) the weight was not attached to the pulley end, so no reduction, wrong on Diesel instead of gas, because gas don't ignite, the FUMES do (just took a shot at that being a trick question), and I gotta say about the suction/atmospheric thing, there is no "suction", all suction really is pressure equalization . Fun test!

Can we say humiliating??82%.Missed 9 questions.I agree that the phrasing of the questions left something to be desired.......That multiple reduction question I ended up guessing at,#19.That governor question I got right but they had a better answer down below it which I didn't see.Gotta take it a few more times......I'll show ya'.LOL.Ron G

Re: Mechanical aptitude test

76% :(

I think I got all the common sense ones right. I didn't do too well with the electrical or any of the problems that required calculating something other than the most basic gear example. Not than I'm particularly bad at math. Just need to knows the rules first.

88%. Never took any mechanical training just try to do everything myself. I usually make a mistake once and learn from it. I've zapped my fingers and burned my eyebrows off, but only once so far.

Re: Mechanical aptitude test

84% I sucked on the electrical diagrams, because I had load and source reversed. I missed on single pulleys, but got the mutiples right . . .

#38 is incorrect. From the perspective that they show, the fans will rotate the opposite direction of each other. The same rotation if your perspective is that of one of the fans, but I am not a fan, I am an observer . . .

Re: Mechanical aptitude test

86% but don't agree with #11,26 and the pulleys got me

11 Correct (worn gear right?) will turn the Spur ccwise. It appears the worm threads turn to the right, but they rotate left..(imagine the Spur locked..worm would go right..unlock Spur, cc on Spur)
And YEP, ! got a problem with 26 too..seems all the bulbs have power me

I agree on 26 all the bulbs should come on because thay have put the switch
out side the circuit.

On 11 may be im not seeing it but to me it looks like the worm gear is turning counter clock wise. That would turn the spur clockwise. Or if you locked the the spur the worm gear would walk off to the left. Does the worm gear to you seem to have left or right hand thread to me it looks to have right hand thread. Ok had to think about it with a bolt in my hand ya your right.

Re: Mechanical aptitude test

Qc think of the fans like a torque converter on a car with an automatic trans. That's the point there making on that one.

Take a screw and turn it CC..head on your right...threads go the the left, doing the spur CC (
(gotta do the 26 thing real time...)

I agree about the point they were "trying" to make. The fans turn opposite of each other though . . . ;) I am still not a fan, I am an outside observer, observing, The fans turn oppositely of each other if you are observing them . . .
