I agree with WOG and GT1M. Put a screw in and don't over tighten them. I would only hand tighten them and use the 3m 4000 you already have on the bolt and nuts.

Ok .... I will use the small bolts. I think you are all right ..... it is added protection. I just hope I don't crack the darn things. Seems like Murphy pops up now and again in my garage and I hope this isn't one of those times ... lol

Thanks guys.

You won't crack em!!! The bolts are just for backup so only hand tigten...Barely. With the lock tite the nuts won't back off and if the adhesive fails the bolts will keep em from falling in the lake. Heck they don't even have to be tight as long as the nuts don't fall off.

I think that I will use lock nuts and lock tite and tighten them just enough so they don't rattle.

Hey Jon,
just got caught up again. you have made some major progress. how was the glue and carpeting, fairly easy? i am contemplating the same thing for my barge.

nice job you got going on. I do like the Ipod system as well since i hate most music they play on the radio and can't stand taking cds every where.

Hey rr welcome back ...... I have been working on it a little at a time but it is getting there slowly ...lol. I did glue the carpet in and it went down nice and smooth. I picked up some aluminum strips at Lowes that were half price because they were bent on the ends so I used them to finish the edges of the carpet.

Thanks PX ....... it seems like it has taken forever. This is a good example of how great this forum is .... I never even owned a boat before and had no clue what a transom was till I found that mine was rotted. I NEVER would have been able to do any of this work without the help of a great bunch of guys here on this forum.

Sorry sp .... I thought that the carpet would be cooler and feel better on your feet. Not sure how long it will stay clean but I can always put in some throw rugs on the fishing trips to help with the fish slime.

Like the emblems, carpet and trim looks great, you're really chipping away at it man.:)

Also want to say I liked your stereo cabinet before but couldn't really see the big picture with it mounted. Then I saw the carpet pic above and now that I can see the big picture I have to say I really like it now!! Good idea and follow through.

Thanks Decker .... you are really doing some amazing work over your way. I can tell this isn't your first glass project ... lol.

Thanks TDF ... that cabinet was kind of a "let's see if this will work" project. I probably changed the design 10 times while I was putting it together. It kind of worked out good for me 'cause I was able to hide all the wiring and didn't have to really cut into my dash.

Ok ..... the emblems are on with the bolts and no cracks. Now that it is done ..... it was a piece of cake ... lol. I have to tell you that was the most nerve racking thing that I have done on the boat so far. I thought for sure they were going to crack.

All I can say is, Man-o-man that looks SUH-WEEEEEEE-T!!!...it is like the icing on the cake...:D:D:D

Definitely a plus one on the white rubrail insert...so what if it gets dirty, just one more little thing to maintain......I think a nice rope insert with a few good coats of some kind of matte clear finish, or even a coat of clear silicone, should keep it looking new for a long time...

Thanks guys .... I am still not sold on the white rub rail insert. I have to get a shot of the whole boat so you guys can see that there is some black on her like the cleats, switches, steering wheel, motor and trailer. I think the black rub rail separates everything ..... kind of.

Re: Need help with transom repair w/pics

My rub rail insert finally came today ( yes .... the Mrs. decided on black ) and I found it very easy to install. All I kept thinking was how am I going to pull this vinyl thru the rail all the way around the boat.

This stuff is a lot more flexible then the stuff that was in there. I was able to put the insert into the bottom of the rail and then squeeze the top of the insert to force the top into place. I was amazed at how easy it went in.

Now .... if I can just get this windshield to cooperate ..... lol.

No, you didn't miss it because that is the original trim I am just replacing the old shield with new Lexan. I made a template back when I removed the windshield and it is very close but still a little off. I think it is because the old shield had a bubble in it and this is going to be kind of flat. I had to order the seal that goes along the bottom of the Lexan and sits on the bow .... once it gets here I think it should go on ok.
