Hey sp .... I started with 2 tbs of white and 1/2 tsp of blue and mixed it till I got a color very close to the "Flamingo" and then I just started adding green till it looked close to what I wanted. It was not as complicated as I feared it would be. I don't think it has an actual color name since it was a custom mix. I mixed up a sample just to see how it looked on the boat but when I mix it for real I will try to remember to write down the actual formula. This is what I used:

Once the formula is down do we mix enough without hardener to do all of the coats then use as needed? How long will it keep without hardener? I was thinking about making extra for future touch up so the color would be perfect match . whatcha think?

I kept very accurate measurements on my mixing ratio's and recorded them for my Flamingo Blue. If I had it to do over I would Mix a half Gallon without hardener. Buy a New empty can from Lowe's, make a plastic seal and drive the lid home. I think if you kept it in the house it would last a long time.

My plan is to mix the colors together and then put 2 cups of paint into a mixing cup, add the hardener and thinner, mix it together as I need it. I will store the left over paint for touch up.

Yeah, my problem was I calculated to well, and Had NO left over. I'm hoping when I'm ready to do the touch up on the chips to the bow, that my formula calculations will be spot on. We'll see.

Ok ..... I know it is not a great shot but here she is with her first coat on. I am going to let her sit till morning and then I will sand her and start the second and hopefully the third coats. I painted the lower rub rail the same as the cap but not sure if I like it or not. The green is frog tape. I still have some white painting to do on the transom that is why it looks like that. I know I said this when I was painting the hull but I have to say it again ....... I will never make it as a body repair man. You sure see how well ( or how bad ) your sanding skills are when there is paint on ..... lol.

Hey Jon, you say you wouldn't make it as a body man...I do it for a living, and let me tell you, there are guys doing this kind of work that don't come close to doing as nice a job as the one you are doing on your MFG...Like in all things in life, when you do it for the first few times, it is a learning curve, when you've done hundreds of times, you actually start to refine your techniques, and finally after thousands of times you are getting pretty close to knowing what you are doing...

If I remember correctly, you are in the same boat as most of us, this being your first restore...you are doing a fantastic piece of work...like those first few scratches and dings in the once new car or truck, after a while they become marks of pride from battles fought and survived...such are the little imperfections that creep up in our first few attempts at doing anything...

Brother, you are doing excellent, commendable, and inspiring work...Keep it up!
