ok so I set it for my bar....lets get our drink on!

IMG_4292.jpg

also got around to wrapping my first corner....not an easy task alone...gotta wrap, hold, staple and pray all at once, and i skipped the prayer!

I think I may layer the corners with a little cloth when I epoxy it as well to beef it up...

It's coming together nicely ! What did you use on the radius corners?

1/8" masonite...I have to epoxy it really well because its not exactly water friendly....It was only material I could find to wrap the corner that would bend that tightly...its only there to give the vinyl its shape, it will all be wrapped with vinyl when its done

Yep, you need a table saw. 1/4 " ext ply with kerfs every 3/4" would bend around that like a dream.

we tried 1/4" with kerfs every 1/4" and it still would not wrap without snapping....my friend and I worked on options for a while to no avail

Kerfs weren't deep enuf. They gotta be 5/32" deep, AND put a soaking wet HOT towel on the wood for 10 minutes.

I did add the cardboard and it does keep it at a slower overall speed, but still do not like the trigger on this control and think I will spend a few bucks and get a new foot control with the pedal action I was used to before, they only cost like 30 bucks and seem easy enough to rewire

I had the same trouble with my machine.... well actually more trouble........ The dang thing would runaway on me as I couldn't help but give it to much pedal. I ended up getting a speed control that are used for a wood router to slow them down. It is just a reastat much like the foot control only you dial the speed in with the control knob. Once it is set to the speed you like all you have to do is mash the gas, so to speak, and go.

If I were using epoxy on the corners then I would run a thin glass mat to add extera strength and help with the corners from cracking when forming. You can then score both sides of the plywood alternating cuts to ease arround corners.

I decided to reinforce the rounded corners, the staples and glue are probably sufficient, but for 10 bucks worth of cloth, its solid peace of mind

You must be a tinny at heart, epoxy & all:)

If the bench upholstery turns out at least 1/2 as good as the bench fab work does, I again say you are going to be a busy busy upholstery sewing man!

Outstanding,

I did a little experiment...I took a piece of the masonite I used to wrap my corners, and submerged it in water for 24 hours...removed it and let it dry...it did not swell or warp...bending it is about the same resistance as before...and it does not feel softer.....it did discolor it , but that could be still retaining some moisture

side did not swell

so I guess it is more water friendly than I thunk...I had done some research and saw they used to make exterior house siding out of it and it got me thinking lol

Yep, thin & thirsty for epoxy I bet.

That is basically what MDO's finish face is made of, just thicker. Siding holds up pretty good w/ careful prep, install, painting & maintenance. Keeping the edges you cut fully protected, even the small pucker from around a driven nail, help get a longer life out of the siding products. Hung many many many LF of it in wet/damp northern California.

How rigid did the corner pieces get after you epoxied & glassed them?

Oh, yeah, I do seem to remember a little something about NOT CURED YET, 24hrs blah blah blah, in your post earlier.

But come on man, that was like 3hrs+ ago, my ADHD kicked in at 4p, very little prior to that remains in RAM....

Glad to hear/see it's going so well & turning out so great.

the glassed edges feel really strong...I didn't beat it with a hammer or anything but feel more secure that the bond will last. I have a couple air bubble at the staples but overall laid in pretty smooth...it will never be seen so its good for now

tick-tock...tick-tock....2nd coat of epoxy today...so waiting ever so impatiently for it to cure...got the rest of the frame pieces cut (seat back and seat bottom) can put them on tomorrow...and finally get some measurements for sewing...I will epoxy those pieces while I am working on the upholstery. could not get accurate measurements until this is done so it has just been lots of waiting.
