That's a nice bounty right there, good thing you finished that degree;)

The CMC should be a nice feature for the rig, if the stereo doesn't vibrate all the bolts loose! :D

Woodonglass: What type of compound did ya use? I used nevr-dull on one piece last night and it came out decent... My buddy told me it looked a ton better but all I could see was the corrosion spots. Would 200) grit sand paper or the steel wool work better for that stuff?

Thanks for the replies!

For bad corrosion I used one of these from HF.

I then just when through the progressions of the Rouge that came with the polishing kit from HF.

Huron: Thank the heavens that degree is done!:D I'm excited about the CMC its gonna be a nice addition... the stereo definitely a hit in the ole back pocket but the boat isn't gonna be huge water sports performer so decided to make it look and sound good for some nice relaxing days on the water!

Woodonglass: I'll have to check out our HF and see if I can find some stuff. Appreciate all the help

My bad bouttime! Don't worry your advice is being put to use as well... actually went yesterday to get some steel wool. I live across the street from a true value so i can walk BUT it closes at 5 and i get home a little after 5 AHHHHHH.... Thank you for your advice as well!

Besides you've been around since the beginning March 7th, 2009 12:15 PM... granted you did forget about me...
I totally forgot about this thread.

Its been 2 years? LOL

I was wondering how you were going to finish up in the bow with the cedar. I suppose you could fab up one last stringer out of wood to screw to.

....but i forgive ya

Where can i find a cloak of invisibility!? That could definitely be dangerous

:D No worries Piece.

Well I actually was off site for almost a year, and finally came back to research some stuff and found this thread again by happenstance. I noticed how long it had been since Id posted here and was shocked it had been that long.

I think Im gonna have to do a re-re-store thread pretty soon with some minor repairs and upgrades.

I think Stella's House of Epothecary still carries the cloaks of invisibility, but shes not getting any new shipments. Get them while they last at $7,995!

Aight here are a couple more goodies! Uflex steering wheel, Razorback bumpers (WOO PIG SOOIE!), Bilge pump (yes the sticker on that says 88 cents fantastic find i do say), live well aerator with sprayer for make shift mist system, stern light and socket, trailer wiring

I'm about to order foam for seating and gunnel pads... anything special I should know or look for? Is there a difference between outdoor seating foam and marine foam? What about thickness? I was thinking 1 in for the gunnel and 2-3 in for bow seating? yay.. nay... any suggestions would be great... k thanks!

Nice haul Piece!

If I recall, my bow seat foam that I re-used was 2 inch thick, but I would recommend going 3 inch though. 2" is good enough for moderate comfort, but you may want the extra inch. When you apply the new vinyl, the foam will squash down a bit. This is good though to keep the vinyl tight.

Dont forget your weep holes in the bow seat ply bases.

Bouttime: Thanks for the reminder... weeps holes will be used! Is Dacron a needed addition to the foam.. I'm thinking no but i have been wrong in the past. What about over hang of the foam... is it best to end foam directing on edge of base/backing or let if overhang just a bit? I'm thinking over hang but again what do i know...

Right now the foam looks like it'll be about $115-120 and free shipping from the foamfactory.com precut to the sizes I need... this is for the gunnel pads only not bow seating.. good deal?

Dont know about the dacron, but the overhang isnt really needed as the foam will squash down and bevel the leading edge pretty good. It might make recovering harder too, because there wouldnt be a defined "hard edge" to fold over and may cause bulges in spots but Im not certain of this.

You may want padding on the leading edge of the bow seats though. In theory, you could glue a strip of sill seal along the leading edge of the seat base for that. Sill seal could be used for padding on your gunnel pads too. 2 layers would be just right I would think, but 1 might be enough. Sill seal comes in 3.5" and 5.5" width rolls at most hardware/home centers.

Gunnel padding thickness? 1 in or 2 in... I was leaning towards 2

You know, if you just put your hands over your eyes, nobody can see you. My kids did it for years.
I just saved your $8000.00 thanks very much.

Seems to me you wouldnt need too much for gunnel padding.

That sill seal would be perfect for this. Once you have your quarter inch ply backing, a couple layers of sill seal, and covered in vinyl, the panels will be flush or thicker than your inside gunnel trim. Thats the key here, as it wouldnt poke people in the back. (like my boat with no panels)

Alright sorry bout the delay... been working on her just keep forgetting to take pics. I'm kinda at the point where things that need to be done have an order... and of course i dont realize this order until i start into something and realize something has to be done first for that to work.... ANYWAYS

Here is a couple of pics of the progress... The gunnel pads are cut and foamed (two layers of sill seal) thanks bouttime... holes cut in gunnel for speakers.. still need to figure out positioning for rear two speakers... and Seats have met the boat for the first time!

Re: Restoring 1986 Sea Nymph SS155 (pics)

The boat saga is nearing its conclusion and I'm getting excited! It's down to the little stuff. The last big project is going to be the bow seating area, but can't do that until i finish gunnel pads and mount consoles. I'm trying to get stuff prepared so it can be a somewhat smooth ride to the end.

Question: Where is a good place for marine wiring? or basically what type of wiring is best for electronics? What type of wiring is best for stereo applications (head unit, components, sub, and amp)?

both will be needed ... I remember reading about a place that wraps the wire and adds the connections needed... not cheap but its basically order to size which could be nice.... wiring is a noobie category for me as I will be doing some research on here but figured I'd post for some help in the thread as well. Thanks in advance!
