Re: Sportcraft tri-hull rebuild

I used my Kubota tractor when flipping my hull. I screwed some 12' 2x6's to the side of a pallet to move it around on. after I got it flipped. I had to move mine into/out of my garage long ways, so I couldn't pick it up by the side.

Jim,

Nice progress so far. I do not have access to a fork lift but I do have a few home built toys. I will post pics when I use them.

Looking good eaglejim. I can't wait until I'm at that stage. It will be late spring by the time I get there.

Isn't it nice to see all that new wood sitting there? If that don't get ya going, nothing will. :D:D. You can actually put the transom together now. Just a couple tubes of PL Premium and some gyproc screws and you can glue that puppy together in no time.

What is PL Premium?and where would I pick it up at, I looked into a adhesive called cx-948 it also comes in tubes super strong won't come apart, and it is nice to get back to working on the boat,I will need a lot of help on fiberglass did a little about 45 years ago with my grandfather but that is about it.Next on list is glue transom together and fix the 2 slices I put in the boat taking out the old deck. Thanks Jim

PL is construction glue. I use it on my stuff. It bonds like steel. You can get it at any hardware store, I'm sure. I just sqeeze it out of the tube and spread it with a trowel to give the transom a nice even coat, then screw the two halves together. A lot will squeeze out on the edges. It will take a few days to harden. Then remove all the screws when your ready to glass.

PL400.jpg

Comes in a few different types, is similar to Liquid Nails, and is found in the caulk aisle (near LiqNail) in the big box stores...

Yes, they look very similar, except there was no foam in mine. Not sure if it was built that way because the deck looked like it
had been replaced before.

You are doing some outstanding fabrication on your deck and transom. What Resin are you planning on using? What did you use to Lam the 2 pieces for the transom?

Re: Sportcraft tri-hull rebuild

Takes 72 hours for the PL to fully cure. Did you use a 1/4" trowel to spread it evenly? If it's been less than 2 hours I'd go ahead and use Deck Screws and place em about ever 6". Don't want any air pockets on the interior of the lam. You can remove the screws after it fully cures in 3 or 4 days. When you install it in the boat the resin will fill the screw holes so no problem there.

Well did it a little different,I did trowel it on and I did use deck screws except they are on the wood pieces acting like a vise and I am going to let it set for 3 days. I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad (I think I can make a song out of that). I will need some input on fiberglass next so if you can give me a little notice so I know what to pick up and be able to do it right it will be appreciated. You guys make me look like I know what I am doing, Thanks again Jim

How about some pics to show us where you're at on the project, and of the 2 small slices you speak of... I don't quite understand.

What are you going to be doing with the resin, laying glass or sealing?
