And I was nicely letting Blue think he was the guilty party.

...and just how many pages of this thread (possibly multiple times!) would you have allowed me to comb through? ... or just let allow me to arrive at the realization that I was hunting snipe!!!

Just think what you learned going through the 400 posts. And yeah, I would let you read all of 'em. Besides snipe are good eatin' - If you catch one. :watermelon:

GA, that's cruel and unusual punishment. what did the poor guy ever do to you?

just more wallowin in the epoxy last night, nothing picworthy. dog hair embedded in epoxy isn't that much more exciting than watching it dry.

got drops of epoxy all over my cellfone; another reason why i buy the mil-spec armored model (which i still manage to destroy eventually) stead o the smart kind. i also got the 2d bunk for the trailer drilled and installed so boat doesn't rock and roll while i'm working in it. one of those "how did i live with it for so long?" items.

this weekend looks to be great weather for boat work, so i'm planning on trying to get floors in (assuming i can get the foam tomorrow) and maybe console reassembled and in. let's see how much i got done come Monday. oh, and also finally getting one of the glassers ready for splash....all we have left is some rigging replacement and trailer prep.

WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP
NOTHER PAYCHECK BITES THE DUST!

I noticed that both my hull discharge ports for bilge pumps are 1 1/8", and didn’t want to mess with necking that down to 3/4" to be compatible with the 500gph Mayfair pump. So we now have another 350 off to the chandlerzzz for stuff including another 2000 gph pump.

also a SPOT 2 unit.....cheaper than a traditional 406mHz PLB, and it lets you send the “I’m OK and here’s where I am” signal to the Admiral or whomever. Wish I didn’t have to drop $100/yr for service but the cost difference between that and a PLB will cover 2 years’ worth. By which time, given that it’s an electronic device and within a 10' radius of me, it will probably get destroyed anyway......

I’m going to just get a momentary-contact 3 way switch for the TnT. Will a 15 amp switch handle the load of TnT pumps without a relay?

Those Spots are supposed to be good locators. I tracked a guy last year or the year before last running a bike in the Baja 1000 and it seemed pretty accurate. Bummer on the pump for paycheck. :faint2:. Not sure on the current draw of a Chrysler pump. Is it fused? If so, match the fuse rating. Then you can't go wrong. But then again, given your electronics histrionics -

Loud and clear on the destruction of electronics, but the don't build them to last anyway.

My unedumacated spidey sences say the down load is fine at 15amps, the up not so good. Guessing more like 30 amps. When i was testing an old 1974ish OMC pump set up with the original wire the up side was getting very hot, it wasn't fused.

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

OK, thanks. GA, no fuse that i saw. i have a stack of 40amp marine relays i got on fleebay a few years ago*, so i guess i'll use one on at least the "up" wire and make the feed wire(the old stuff is usable but not long enough) 10 gauge.

*are we seeing why the Admiral thinks i'm a hoarder?

another lectircal Q: since my batteries are under the console, i'll already be running #1 cable forward for both pos and neg. Is there any reason i couldn't route the negative through a bus bar under the rear splashwell, so i have a convenient central ground point back there?

what ya need to do is get the LS a motor so you can "borrow" it's solenoid...

(...and its cover will no longer look like John Bobbit's ...ah lets not go there; gives me chills )

The buss bar is a good idea. In fact two, a + and a -. Use heavy duty buss bars connected to the battery. You can connect all your stern power needs to the heavy bars. Starter leads, lights, kegerators, etc. Also the H. D. bars will save money cuz you only need the biggish two cables back to the stern. More freed up $$$ for bilge pumps. :)

Yeah - Check the LS. No tellin' what's hiding under that new cover. Viagra can fix the droopy motor cover. For up to four hours.

actually, what i'm currently hiding under it are the very long boxes from bimini etc, etil i can get em to the recycle place

Viagra is waay too pricey to waste on motor covers.

i thought about a positive bus bar as well, but most of those things need switches so i'll have to run the pos lead from the switch in the console.

kegerator? i LIKE that idea! just noticed our local microbrewery has mini kegs. with 46 gallons of fuel and a keg, i'd hardly EVER have to go back to shore....

Sometimes you have think outside of the box. For example: Bilge pump wiring - Fused 12 volts from buss to pump, switched ground from console. Stern light. Fused 12 volts from buss to light, switched ground from console. Whatever is back there, fuse to buss and switch the ground. Even the kegerator. BTW - would you measure performance at MPG or KPM?

You're right - V is to dear to waste on motor covers. Now cut and duct tape some of the bimini boxes to make a faux O/B. And your still thinking outside the box. :)

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

hmmmmm....somehow having a constant hot item in the bilge of a tin hull surrounded by salt water with no ground sounds like a recipe for either fire or seriously accelerated galvanic corrosion. not sure i like that plan. and since i already have the wire bundle made up and run.....altho i will have to swap two 14 ga wires in it for 12 ga due to increased juiceage of the second 2000gpm pump compared to the 500gph i was going to use. i still might add a positive bus just to have somewhere i can clamp on a clamp-on accessory (air pump for inflatables, searchlight, etc) without digging down to the batteries' hobbithole.

i acxtually have two motors for the LS, both the old OMC 40 hp "Big twin", both needing some work. it just hasn't been on the front burner lately. did 4 hours on the Holiday last night, and i'm still beginning to worry whether it will be ready to go for Memorial Day, given that i also need to do some prep on the trusty steed, the tackle, and getting/prepping two bikes to take to a friend's kids. the portabote will work fine, it's just that after being in the HoliMariner, it will seem pretty cramped n spartan. how you gonna keep em down on the farm after they seen Pareee?

Overly concerned about errant amperage! That's why I said fused feed to appliances. And think of it this way - How many salters have 3 and 4 batteries stuffed back there? Even tinnies.

But all that's beside the point. You have to be comfortable and feel safe - That's the most important item on the agenda! Carry on.

Pushing from afar so you get the HolyMariner (sprinkle holy water on the hull) done in time :) so you don't end up in the portabote. :blue:

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

Gracias, senor....I can use all the kick in the tush I can get. It’s funny, but one of the things I dread most about taking the PB is having to set it up and take it down. Here’s what it looks like ready to go fishing:

P1010431.jpg
[/IMG]

now imagine how long all that stuff takes to assemble on a folding boat.....

last night was another exciting evening of slinging that stuff that reminds me too much of FG boats. Remember to go pull those bits of tape and scrape the drips off before it fully hardens into rock!

P1011262.jpg

P1011263.jpg
[/IMG]

I don’t trust the flimsy plywood console face to support the steering box by itself, so I’m making up a brace for the back side out of 2" L-channel. This will double as a negative bus bar for all the dash electrics.
P1011261.jpg
[/IMG]

Wanted to do a test fit on the 9 gal kicker tank I hope to put under the splashwell, but forgot I have the floors out again.

I’m still dithering on the rear sliders, on whether to reinstall them as sliders or to hinge em. Any input from anyone who has actually tried the hinging?

I have another weekend off from going to ABQ so I’m hoping to get a lot done on the ole crock. Transom is now ready to reinstall for good once the epoxy cures fully; got the POLS* bent up so I’m then ready to finish the extra knee braces; then finish the underfloor wiring; if I can find the foam today, cut and install it; screw backers to floorboards to keep junctions level; then finally drop the floors down for good. Oh, and help my buddy replace the running rigging on the sailboat. We’ll see how much I get done.

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

thanks Jimbo! i saw that bugger Murphy eyeing the dash so thought i should do something to head him off.

well, i did find extruded foam in town, but can't get it til next week, so no floors riveted this weekend (like i was gonna get that far anyaway....)

whoops! i was looking at the CMC web site and it looks like they use an 80 amp relay. whoa.....guess i won't be using those 40 amp relays. not sure if the old chrysler draws that much, but i only want to wire this boat once, so i need to have capability to work the TnT on any future motor

Do you have room for you in the fb? You load her up. :)

Like you didn't have any else to do. Two bikes, sail boat rigging and truck tuning were on the list. Is the transom ready to go back in?

Just think of how much time you will have available when you're done all this stuff!!!! :) Man, it'll be fish diner's, fish lunch's fish breakfast.... you'll prolly grow gills! :D

Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome

ahh, the white legs o death fit fine in there. now when i take my 215 lb fishing buddy, it gets a little more cramped. and you can't even see the kicker, large kit of flares etc, and ditch bag under the closed bow....

thanks for all the kind words. great progress this weekend, glasser on Saturday and tinnie on Sunday. we got sailboat running rigging replaced, bow eye removed and rebedded (this took some cutting of interior panels to get at backside), new tiller installed, kicker bracket installed, and keel winch removed (we were gonna just replace cable until we noticed that drum had rusted out and collapsed). Basically she’s splash ready once we bolt in new keel winch and check the trailer bearings.

then on the Holiner, got the transom in and lined up perfectly. i chickened out on bolting it in, since i figured it will be a lot easier to squirt a little paint on her butt if i'm not dodging 30 bolt heads plus a swim step and kicker bracket.

added a bunch more strapping to hold the conduits in place altho i'm still not happy....the big one can move slightly and that bodes poorly for longevity of rivet points. Another go at it tonight.

made up bracing for under the antenna base....;.this won’t get installed until console is in boat, as otherwise it would stick up and tear a hole in the cover

mounted the underwater light on the bottom of the swim step. One of my extravagances, but I suspect the Admiral will like it for night diving.

Cut and rough fitted my cheep carpet....two throw rugs from the Despot, total about $20. I can already tell this will make a huge difference in noise and comfort, and it’s not even glued down yet. I also like the color, as the light beige reflects light to help with “cave” aspect under the bow. Plan is to only tack it in a few spots in case it needs to be replaced ....not exterior grade, AFAIK. Propane torch from back side of carpet worked great to seal cut edges against unraveling. as you can see, i still have a couple of cuts to make but want to get floors etc in first.

Installed a string of killer LED lights I got from a friend inside the cabin.....these light up so bright that you almost need sunglasses to look at em! These will let me read or tie up leaders at night. another string will live under the rear splashwell.
