Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome
we had a massively productive weekend, at least by my standards. this was the last weekend when i'll be here instead of at cabin and it won't be brutally hot, so i wanted to have a production frenzy.
got all the remaining non-tin out of the boat cept the transom and sanded down the gunwales where sheet metal screws had left jagged hand-biters. i have the Durabak for gunwales and topside on the way, and will 40-grit the rest of topsides when i'm ready to apply it. cut down and test fitted the teak step pads for gunwales. scraped and wire brushed remaining residue from the astroturf. headlights have been removed so i can paint frames black and re-seal em with 5200, and replace bulb on one. it's an obsolete sealbeam; hope i can find one.
pulled outboard off transom, no thanks to my @#$%& chineez engine hoist. it's now strapped to a tree to hold it upright.
pulled all the hardware i could get off the transom (was able to get the knee brace bolts loose from outside, thanks to the gap between transom and splashwell). hopefully i can line up my neighbor tonight to finish that part. channel on top of transom was pretty hashed, and i'll likely either drop some reinf on top or TIG weld the booboos. or both.
bought all remaining plywood needed, and made some headway on both console and on bulkhead from existing dash bottom down to floor. bought a gallon of Ace white enamel for hull base coat, plus more absurdly expensive brass and SS hardware.
unfortunately learned this morn that Moeller (cursed be their name) has discontinued the underfloor tank i'd ordered, calling it obsolete. guess they'd say the same about my boats, and me. so we're back to trying to figure out good solution for gas tank(s) in terms of weight distribution. had planned on re-usng original tank under splashwell too til i could afford a 2d one, but it has rust pitting beginning on bottom; i'd rather drop another 200 now than wonder when it will start dripping gas into bilge.
pix tomorrow!
