Re: the 1967 Holiday 18 and Multiple Boat Syndrome
came home exhausted from cabin at abt 1130 sunday night, and work is back up to insane, so i'm not getting much done on boat in eves. i did get the last floor section mostly cut out, and did a bunch of work on the wiring.
Brown truck guy came by to give my dogs some exercise and also left me some goodies:
that there is a $129 distributor cap. platinum contacts no doubt. but try finding one of these anywhere but through Franz. his prices are really very fair and service is great, and he's spent way too much time answering my Qs for the profit he makes on the parts. i had to economize and get the plastic rod holders for now. figure they'll be easy to upgrade later when i can afford another $200 for stainless ones.
i didn't know they made these---weld-on skeg to replace the one the PO ground off. less than $35 and they make em for Murkcruisers too. also got a lower unit seal kit as i figure even with using TIG, enough heat will be transferred into lower unit housing to make old seals suspect.
laying out the electrical "subpanel" that will be mounted in the console (keeping it removable in case i need to pull it to upgrade electrics etc). note to self: use something beside a Sharpie for labeling next boat's electrics, or wait til after you've laid on some epoxy....xylene i use to thin the epoxy makes the ink spread
close up of panel....the two 4ga wires at bottom are the main feeds from the house and starting batteries, and the red/black 10ga wires running up and to right are the power feed for switch panel in dash. single 10ga power feed to fuse panel will run all electronics and horn. small bilge pump is wired direct to battery rather than through main battery switch, so i can leave it operative in case of rain etc even if rest of boat is switched off.....using a 3 way switch to allow me to kick it on manuallly or just when the float switch trips.
test fitting it all in place. still need to make up tiedown arrangement for batteries, but it's starting to look like a console and not just a carpentry project. i still have a lot of stuff to screw n glue together but figured it would be easier routing the wiring first.
