Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

I ran out so fast this morning I didn't have a chance to post the pics of the teak all finished ( except for 2 pieces screwed down to the deck under stuff)
100_2150.jpg

Here are the deck hatches all cleaned and oiled, except for the 2 sides that I can't remove till I take out the cooler and the frig

100_2155.jpg

Well got back from the service call and the prop still was not here. It finally arrived at 7:15 pm

100_2159.jpg

But its here Woo Hoo I probably have to go back to Montauk Point to install a new Combi-Core unit if I get pick it up early enough to get it done.

On a side note I got a FREE 22' Boat Trailer while I was at the Montauk Point I noticed the customer ha a trailer sitting on the side with weeds. I have been eying it for the past 2 years sitting there( they are a long time customer) . When taking to them about their heating problems I said, "If I may ask, what are you doing with that boat trailer in the back of the property" she says " you want it, it's yours, I want it off the property" !!!!! We sold our boat when we moved to FLA the guy was supposed to come back for the trailer, that was 6 years ago.. I just want it gone, it's yours Free :D

The rollers look like new, tires are dry and show some cracks, but are still hard. The trailer has hydraulic brakes but they are very rusty. When I go back either tomorrow or Saturday I am going to bring my box truck and the plate from my trailer to try and drag her home..

Hey Bill,
You have been a busy fellow. :D
That teak looks great.
As for the missing louver, check around the area, to see if you have a woodcraft store. They carry some teak at the one near me.

Great score on the trailer too. Even if you don't like it you may be able to put a little time in it and get some cash out of it. :D
Nice pretty prop too. :p
Take care

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

Hey Kev,
Yep, I thought the price was perfect!!!! I notice it 2 winters ago sitting there boat-less  She didn't even say we can work out the trailer with the repair bill :D I guess being their minute man and doing 150 mi round trip every time they have a problem has it benefits, they are absentee landlords now that they live in FLA. It needs some work but not really too much. everything looks pretty new except the brakes that look rusted to hell from sitting, I am hoping its just the backing plates. I already looked at trailer parts depot and I can get a complete disk brake kit with actuator, lines, calipers, rotors etc for $324 worst case scenario. Its a Galvanized roller, already setup for a deep V . I didn't get the make but looking at it she is very well made.
Beats the heck out buying a ragged out one for $500 and having to put another $5-700 into her to fix

Hey Sprint,
No I didn't have my camera, but if I go to install the new boiler for them tomorrow, I will be dragging it home :D

I already priced new tires for it if needed, I can get them for $55 ea with a buy 3 get the 4th Free deal

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

Thanks Bob,

Yes I have to check around, I plan on looking for some teak next week if I have time.

As for the trailer, Whats not to like LOL ;) right now I have 2 boats and 1 trailer. The one the Sea Gem is on now it too small for the boat, it is for the 21' but the Gem is taller and the bow is flatter. I really am pushing it's limits, the bow stop is right up against the coupler and the boat still hangs off if it about 1'.

Edit- I'm surprised nobody has picked on me for how dirty the deck is in the pics  just looked at them know and they look mess

Bill,
We were looking at the wood and not the mess.:p
Hey if you can't find any teak, let me know, I have some. You would have to cut it down but, I would send it to you.

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

Hi Bob ,

Thanks for the offer, I will keep you posted on how I make out on my local search.

I HAD A WASTE OF A DAY !!!

I got up this morning at 5am, I wanted to get all my work done so I could go out on the boat tomorrow and test h:mad:r out. Well................. at 7:30am I talked to my supplier for water heaters and boilers that told me they had the one I needed in Brooklyn, 50 mi away. I figured GREAT if it gets here by 1pm I can still drive the 70mi and get it installed. I ran out got everything needed to install, raced back to wait for the delivery.

It is now 3:45pm still no truck. As a result I have sat here ALL day, no installation, no splashdown Nothing !!!! what a waste of money and time.
Making matters worse, I now have to go install tomorrow, which means working on Saturday and no splashdown :(

This leaves Sunday to test out the boat and the new prop, I really want to hit METO power with her ( Maximum Efficiency Take Off, Heck the boat should do at least 60 lol ) or WOT as you guys know it lol BUT my wife wants to go apple picking  .

I need a Vote, I say the heck with apple picking, float the boat :D You want apples I have trees upstate at the house lol

Opinions, thoughts ?????
Am I being to self centered???

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

Your asking a bunch of boaters to go either apple picking or boating....Dude, think about it. lol. You can buy apples.. lol. but you have to go boating before it freezes. I'm sure your wife will like me for that. lol. Okay, okay. Get up early, pick your apples, get home, hook onto your boat and go boatin'. Make your apple jams, pies, jellies later. ''Get ON The Water''..lol. But don't mind me, I don't have to pick apples. I'll just have a beer and watch you get in trouble. Hey Bill, maybe you need a cam. lol. Good luck buddy. ;)

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

LOL, I'm with you guys but my wife keeps dropping not so Subtle hints. I am hearing, " I really want to go apple picking BUT THAT'S NOT LOOKING PROMISING!" EEK talk about a rock and a hard place.

I feel like I am 12 again looking for moms blessing to do something. Tomorrow is completely shot, my delivery finally got here about 6:30pm, so tomorrow I will be wrenching & torching all day to get it done. I will be dragging the new trailer home so that's a + , although I would have much rather got it all done today.

I do think I am going to say S@&$w it and take the boat out Sunday. It seems like every time I want to take her out I get resistance :( and comes up with another reason why she thinks I shouldn't or can't Grrrrr

EDIT- Hey TC, what happened to your live camera?....... I know you just don't want to share your bear lol

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

To top it off this is the NOAA report for Sunday and Monday.

SUN
NW WINDS AROUND 5 KT...BECOMING SW AROUND 5 KT IN THE
AFTERNOON. SEAS 1 FT OR LESS.

SUN NIGHT
N WINDS 5 TO 10 KT...INCREASING TO 10 TO 15 KT WITH
GUSTS UP TO 20 KT AFTER MIDNIGHT. SEAS 1 FT OR LESS.

MON
N WINDS 10 TO 15 KT WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 KT. SEAS 1 FT OR
LESS...THEN AROUND 2 FT IN THE AFTERNOON.

So..... with 2' seas Monday afternoon, Sunday is the the best bet for trials. With 2' my prop can catch air at 40-60mph just from the waves:(

I still have my cam up. But I figured my boat is almost done so not sure who is looking in. It remains the same. Password is tallcanadian. Password is boat. come on in anytime, you won't see much. Maybe I can change it to a weather cam. lol. I think Sunday is looking good for me to for a splash. Rain tonight, check cam, rain tomorrow but sunday is looking decent. We'll see.

You can pick apples in the wind, you can't necessarily boat in it. Get the boat out and get that behind you.

My theme this year...no regrets. Will you regret it if you don't get the boat out on the one good day this weekend? Then do it! DO IT NOW! :D

Re: The R?surrection of the SeaGem

Hey Bill,
Sometimes we just have to pay the price. Get the boat out and then pick the apples.
She'll only be mad for awhile. I have figured out that, if I don't make her mad doing what I want, then I will just make her mad doing what she wants anyways.
So I just have fun, then pay for it.:D

LOL

No splash today, there is a small craft advisory all day here

Well Here is a pic of my free trailer

100_2167.jpg

100_2174.jpg

BUT I couldn't drag her home because she never would have made it, here's why :(

100_2165.jpg

The trailer has been sitting lots of years, my cousin who's a cop ran the plate for me. The last time it was registered was in 2000.

Here is a grocery list of what is shot:
  1. Springs
  2. shackles
  3. equalizers
  4. brakes ( fell off when I moved the trailer  )
  5. spring u bolts + plates

I priced everything out at Trailer parts depot, and replacing everything including a complete new 10" disc brake kit and electric winch comes to $705.69 .

The only thing that saved it is that it is a galvanized trailer so the main frame didn't rust out.

Before I order the parts I have to do a little more research, I can't find an exact listing for 2 things.
1) The springs are 26" eye to eye, TPD only lists 25 1/4" or 27".
2)The axle U bolt and plate kit- they only show for 2x2 my axles are 2x3 box beams.

If I decide to take it I am going to have to repair it there before I move it. Not to big of a deal, I'll go there with the parts and my Oxy Acetylene rig burn everything off and impact on the new stuff. I figure 1 days work to get it rolling

EDIT- My wife just told me I can't spend $700 on trailer parts
I was replacing everything because I figured I would never get the bolts off/out of the springs and equalizers.

The bad part of this entire thing is it is 70mi away so its not easy to even try. IF I forgo the new springs, brakes, equalizers, & electric winch I am down to $160 . that's if I can get the rusted to hell bolts out. I know I can burn them out but then it will destroy the bushings

What to do, what to do??????
