It got hot like that last summer around here several times - it was nice to have a breeze out over the water, and getting in the water did help ... but only a little.
My biggest problem was GETTING to the water lol
It's 5? outside up here in the northern hemisphere, at least where I'm at.... Don't want to hear about "too hot"...
However, Lake Mead gets that warm, and the water gets ALMOST that warm... no, not comfortable...
Ok so that is aorund -15 here......... ok that is COLD!

I took out my kids a couple times this summer and it got that hot, or hotter. Lots of swimming and hanging out under the bimini top. It wasn't bad until we dried out (which didn't take long), then it was another dip back into the lake.
As for hitching up/launching/loading/working on the boat, that flat out sucks... We left the lake in those temps once and I told the kids, get it done quick so we can get out of the heat! Next to us was a (1) guy shining up his boat with various bottles of cleaning products to keep his spotless rig, spotless. He was baking on the pavement with sweat dripping everywhere....

The hottest I've seen, 127*f (I was driving in the truck, not boating.)
I would have had a chuckle watching someone do that.........
Man the heat just Zaps the enthusiasm right out of me to even attempt to load up in that heat.
80 degrees F. is the tops for me unless it's a long uninterrupted cruise at a speed that will ensure a nice breeze! A sunny day at low speed will have me frying like an egg. And I'll be alone as the lady won't get into the boat if the sun is out and it's over 80.
Of course, in my neighborhood, there are lots of summer days that are cooler than this.
around 80 is a fairly cool day for me I would say. that would be an average spring temperature.
As we don't really have the "cruise option here" its fairly limiting to what we can do in that regard I think
I have a genny and an a/c unit... I can enjoy the morning /evening/night and sleep through the heat of day
it's about 25 deg here now tho so...
Smoke, I even remember reading your thread when you brought the genny home in the passenger side of your mustang......

The hottest that I can remember while boating was on Narragansett Bay in a J-35 (sailboat) . . . I think the land temps were in the 105 range. You could feel the blasts of heat coming off of the land. The thermal activity made for some great wind and we were hauling buckets with the rails almost in the water.
speaking of the water . . . That was the only way we could cool down was to go in the water for a swim or two.
So, 105 F was about tops for me, but I did not think it was too hot to go boating. The hotter it gets, the more likely I will go boating.
always interesting how the different boat types can affect when you use them.
The first and only "acid test" I use for determining if it is to hot to go out on the water is this:
If the good looking women in bikinis won't join me because of the heat then it's too hot.
I have also noticed that (bikini clad women aside) the max temp that I will go out in is directly proportional to the expense of the last repair done to the boat. In other words if I just finished spending the GNP of some small country on parts and the entire previous day skinning my knuckles installing said part then it could be 200 degrees the next day... I'm going out!!!
Ok I know where you are coming from with the GNP and knuckles...... in saying that if it were actually 200, I would leave that all to you mate. I think I would jump into an Ice fridge and sleep for awhile :sleeping:
We went out earlier and came in when it started getting hot.
would have loved to have done that, but it was already around 95f at 8am and by the time I started hitching up I had already caved.
I've catfished in 105 degree temp(anchored). I would keep my tee shirt wet and could feel any slight breeze. When it got unbearable I would wet my shirt and put the nose into the wind(move to another spot).
That seems to be a pretty common consensus. Speaking of fishing, that is a HUGE fish in your avatar mate. Is there a story to that one?

Interesting how the comments are so relative to what you're used to. Milwaukee is hot at 80* but that's perfect here. Desert boaters can handle 100* but that's dry; unbearable in the humid areas.
It's like a conversation I had with two duck hunter friends--one was from Milwaukee and would go when it's 0, too cold for this Virginia boy, but 25, good for me, was too cold for the Louisiana hunter.
Really true I think, It is definitely relative. We had a summer storm roll through around 3 hours after I posted the question. Rain, thunder, Lightning and wind. The temperature didn't drop but crikey it got muggy quick. That was very unpleasant.
When the water feels like bath water and you sweat while you swim it's too hot to boat....
My pool certainly felt like a spa. It was not refreshing at all!
During the summer, we're consistently boating in areas that are easily 115f+ (Lake Mead, Parker, Fishers Landing, Martinez, Ferguson, Lake Perris, etc..) I guess what i'm trying to say is 115f is actually more than normal here during the summer, not just in Southern California, but also in Arizona, Nevada, etc.. I don't mind it at all, part of why i go to the lake!

We had a few days last summer when the WATER temperature was 83*F (28*C) in Upper Chesapeake Bay. You couldn't even cool off in the water! Still went boating though.
My local lake is usually around 25 (77)-28(83) and the three degrees difference is very noticeable. Much nicer at 26 IMO
When I get hot water from both faucets I stay indoors. Otherwise I just keep my bucket hat wet.
Funny you say that, I turned the cool (notice how I said cool not cold ) tap on and it took nearly 10 min for cool water to start. It was noticeably HOT to start with. Absolutely crazy!
That's just weird temperatures. Locally, along the So Cal coast, it gets as hot as 75F in the summer, 60F in the winter but we get through it by wearing hats with small electric fans in the brim in the summer and sweatshirts in the winter. 113F, I can't even wrap my head around that temperature, didn't know thermometers go that high.
LOL, the highest temp I had was when I was working in somewhere called the PILBARA region in WA. It is on the other side of the country, but it got up to 54 degrees Celsius. That would be 129.2 F.
To make matters worse, I was in full kit and in the middle of a stomp. NOT fun. We ended up finding a billabong and just waiting till the sun went down.
I wish I had pictures but at the beach spot a lot drag a folding chair out into the water and sit neck deep lol and their is a floating tray for the drinks.
Always good. I love the floating tray idea. Got to find one now
Mostly about 75 here in SoCal but been out in 120+ several times in Nevada and Az. We just keep the chairs in the water under the EZ-up. And stay under the Bimini when in the boat.
What really sucks is changing a flat trailer tire on the highway (with no shade) when it is over 120.
I would probably just call a tow truck and leave it there!

I just just drilled through 14 inches of ice and the water is 4? 'down under' but it froze so nicely you can see the fish through it. Good skating so it's not a problem not boating. If you want evolution1985 I could mail you some ice from the hole. It will grow some more.
Please do, I could use it in my eski , I really have to get over to the states for a winter.... We just don't get them like you guys do
My comfort level is about 100f in the desert air, 90f with humidity. After that it truly is too hot to boat....not that I won't go anyway.
100f is probably my max comfort level for "fun" boating after that it turns into cool down boating lol
When we lived in Phoenix, Arizona we would go up to Canyon Lake in the evening and have a boat picnic, then spend the night on the boat under the stars. No traffic on the water and we could anchor out and just relax under the stars in 90's temps. Not too bad....

saw this thread when it started, tried to log in but couldn't do it for some reason down the beach but now we're home the laptop is working properlly,
that WAS a hot day....brother is in Echuca at his shack, barely went outside, son is down at Warrnambool in a tent, he loves it but his Irish girlfriend ain't so keen LOL
we were also down the coast but in a house at Venus Bay...barely went outside untill about 4pm when we put the boat in near Inverloch looking for a gummy or two...was a LOT cooler on the water....beautiful night...stayed out 'till about 11pm...got busted off a couple of times, probably rays...then got the phone from the missuss...no power at the house so had to pull up stumps
Sounds like your having a better time than I, My father is in moama, Im down that way next week.
I love that spot. Although why the wake boats think a ten meter wide river is the perfect spot for wake boarding is beyond me. Esp considering the lakes are all full again!
