His Avatar is not an error message, it's a joke. Read the whole thing word for word, you'll see.
:)

All I know is that I just don't have enough faith to be an atheist.

dj- wasn't meant as a slap. i just explained my thoughts on religion. didn't discredit yours. sorry if you took it that way.

the avatar stays. i like it, especially when people don't.

so i hear from some that you should worship a god, 'just in case there is one'. now that's a joke, right? shouldn't your faith be stronger than that? no regrets? i guess not if you're just dirt. but what if you have that opportunity to know that you spent your entire life worshipping something that was never there?

one more quick comment- i think religion as a whole is a good thing- provides stability for some people and support when they need it. also teaches us all to be good people. but i also think you can take those lessons and live by them without following some organized group or praying to an unknown thing.

Matt, nobody said worship a God in case there is one, you know that. I think a better way would be to exsaust all efforts to find out if one exsists. The Bible teaches if you truly seek God he will reveal himself. I think you would be suprised.

Yes Mattt, my faith is stronger than "just in case." But everyone has to start somewhere in their own journey of faith. Mike said it well above.

I guess it boils down to your last two words - "unknown thing." To you, that is what God might be. To me, He is definitely know. I have a relationship with Him.

To put it another way, my wife is an "unknown thing" to you. You have never met her, do not know her, and do not know if she even exists. But if you really wanted to meet her, then you could put a little effort into it, drive, fly, or take the bus or train to this neck of the woods and meet her. You would probably really enjoy her company, wit, charm, and grace. I, on the other hand, know her very well. I spend time with her each day.

It is the same with God, the more you seek Him, get to know Him, etc, the better the relationship is and he becomes real and not an "unknown thing."

From the Word,

Luke 16:29-31 (King James Version)

29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

31And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

All people will eventually get to god regardless of there direction sounds real nice, basically what the Unity church teaches. However, there is a true direction and its a personal relationship with Christ. (Jesus). God didnt give us many ways to him, only through his son, the path is narrow!

All religions other than what we now call Christianity are the wrong track.

Hey, I didnt just make that up, God said it, I beleive it, and Im convinced.

I have to admit that I dont care for many of the TV evangelists, but thats Gods job to deal with them. Just be very carefull not to disscredit God anointed.

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

That's the problem I have with many Christians.

If you profess to believe anything different than what they believe most of the the following happens:

1. They are offended as though you have ridiculed their beliefs..
2. They tell you that you are wrong and are going to hell..
3. They tell you that you are stupid and are going to hell.
4. They refer you to documents that you have already studied and don't believe.
5. They rhapsodize about how wonderful it is to be a "believer".
6. They preach.

Note that all of the above have occurred in this thread in response to "non-believer" posts. Note also that everyone believes something. If it is not their belief that is their problem, not yours.

Why the hell can't they just accept and respect the fact that you believe differently than they and live with it?

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

JB, I notice you start off with "many Christians," I hope some people don't read that as "all Christians."

I believe in Christ, but I have a hard time with the preachy ones myself. It is part of our belief that we should "spread the Word," but once we share it, let it go. It is up to the individual to receive it.

JB has heard it, so has Matt and whoever else. Leave them alone now.

PS: for those of you with the "fish" on your car: stop being rude in traffic. You are making us look bad.

Currently exhausting all efforts to find out if flying saucers exist.
:D

Ok, seriously, if they do exist, how will that compliment or conflict with whatever religious belief you folks have?

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

Ok I have passed on responding on this post again a couple of times but the more I think about it the I see a double standard.......everybody who feels preached at in this thread needs not read it or post in it......It was pretty obvious what this thread is about. If you came to it and were posting and got preached at ....too bad.....none of us had to read this or post except J.B. and no offence J.B. instead of just Moderating you got into the conversation. It was not over the top in any way and most people just stated their opinions........I guess that is what makes some Christians feel like they are being attacked.....If this was a thread about smoking in public being allright or bad everyones opinion would be valued or at least allowed....If I feel you will go to Hell if you dont accept Christ its my opinion so I am just as rightoues stating my ideas, thoughts and opinions as anybody else on here. Dang

Other than calling anyone "Stupid", You have it right, we just dont want anyone to be lost, and when you have the truth, you want everyone else to have it. Being overzellous seems to come with the territory.

Its just like anything else, there is a right way and a wrong way. According to the Bible, there is only one way. Yes there is some bickering about doctrin, but basically the beleif in Jesus as the savior still ties all the christian churches together.

Beleive it or not JB, I felt the exact same way as you do before I finally got it. God found me, I wasnt even looking. Ill never in my life forget that day. Never bawled so hard in my life, and it was beside the road and no reason for it. I thought I was losing my mind, and some think I did. You will know it when it happens, beleive me. Becoming a Christian isnt like joining a social club, its a life changing experience.

My very last post to this thread.

Like a maggot feasting on a rotted corpse, so are humankind to their domain.
In a universe of countless trillions of stars and blackholes, surround by an incalculable amount of planets, their moons and unidentified matter, an inconsequential and fragile lifeform thumps on its chest proclaiming its relationship to an omnipotent source.

Surely we add much unwarranted significance to our stature, my dog also barks at the moon.
