prolly because of human nature, PW. The more we think we are right, the harder we argue that fact. Or, the more unsure we are, the harder we argue to prove we are right. Could be either one. I do not know for sure, because I do not know the ones that have been so forceful with you. I can really only speak in the first person.

Personally, I am very secure in my faith and belief system. I do not worry about anyone changing my mind. However, I also do not profess to know everything, and I see that the more I learn, the less I know. God is the ultimate judge and jury (and like txswinner, I am glad He has that job, and not me).

What I do know is that Jesus was the Son of God. To believe that He was a great teacher, but not God's Son is quite confusing to me. You see, He called Himself the Son of God, and said that no man could come to the Father except through Him. He also talked about building the Temple in 3 days (refering to His death and resurrection). To me, if He was not the Son of God, then He was a heretic and a liar.

That ole Bible is a pretty good read. One of the few books that people read over and over. Think about other books you have read more than once or even referred by two. Only a couple for me "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

PW2 sometimes I feel like my religion is under attack because its not given the same acceptance of all the other religions or lack of......sometimes its because if I even mention my beliefs I am accused of trying to force someone in believing my beliefs. Now understand I want you to know the Jesus I know.......And Pw2 I promise you it not cuz I want to prove my self right it is because God, Jesus and/or the holy Spirt has laid it on his children's hearts to help those who are lost to find their way back to the Father........Now it is a imperfect people trying to help you understand why you need God, this being a reason many of us may not do it in a soft or loving manner.....And it takes believing in something you cant see which is very hard to do at first and for some for their whole lives. Plywoody even though you dont see things the Christian way, I have and will pray for you......I hope thats not what you mean when you feel people push their beliefs on you. I am going to pray that you seek the truth with your whole mind and soul, and that you find it.

The Bible.

A good read, no matter what.

Every time I a read a scripture, I get a different "take" depending on my own situation.

That is the beauty of it.

Many take it as story book. That's fine.

However, when one believes, it starts to lead one into a different being. I have read and believed. My prayers hsve been answered.

It is the most intriguing book, ever written. Look at SALES to make that point.

DJ that is why they call it the living word.......You can read the same scripture 5 time and five different periods in your life and somehow get some wisdom each time.....

my horoscope also seems to apply each and every day. weird.

sorry, just a joke. i've brought up the point jb made several times around here and to many others, and have never received a good answer from the religious folks. with hundreds of religions, there must be plenty going to hell, if there is such a thing.

i'm too scientific. long ago, people worshiped anything they couldn't explain- the sun, moon, etc. science has explained those things, and those gods have died. but death still remains a mystery and it scares people. no one wants to believe there is just an end, so they decide to make up something to dispell that fear.

that's just my opinion and belief. mybe i'm 'lost' or just nuts. or maybe i'm right and we just become dirt one day. guess we'll all find out.

Mattttt, We don't hate you for your non-belief and when the day comes that you meet God it will be him not any of us that decides where you shall spent eternity. Just keep an open mind and when you see a new born baby take a good look in its eyes.

Hope you will continue to give a chance, after all what do you have to lose.

Re: Was Jesus a real person?

Matt there has been many religions in the past.......it doesnt make Christianity any less credable. My Bible and for that matter any Holy Bible starts in the beginning of time as we humans know it. So not all early religions are based on things explained away by science. The Bible describes many of the religions that worshiped the sun, moon and rocks. So it is not a matter of people being smarter or learning more. You having a sceintific way of thinking should not make the bible any less viable.... And no matt I dont think your nuts and at an earlier time I felt simalar as you do but I am a very fortunete man to have been "found" by Jesus or I found him if you will........ What if Matt?....What if?.....its question we all should ask. Doubt is a good thing as long as we explore possabilities and dont write off things we may doubt as being a possability. I question everything that man tells me or I read that may make me decide on importaint things. I test it through prayer and every time as long as I listen God makes it clear if what I am questioning is of him or man.

I don't believe in any form of deity (apart from possibly the Flying Spaghetti Monster :p ) and I think organised religion is a crock-but:-

Couldn't agree more.

Whether Jesus existed or not the constant reprinting and reading of a book that effectively tells people to be nice to everyone can only be a good thing.

I'll wholeheartedly subscribe to that bit.

Matt, just keep on the look out as life itself has a way with conversions. I remember an old DI in boot saying some of you may not believe in God now but remember there have been more people converted in foxholes than in all the evangelistic tents in the world. Good luck.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to add my comment! Doh!

I used to think that way Matt, I used to think that organized religion is just a way to controll the masses or explain away the questions we can't answer. And for the most part, thats probably true. But the older I get the more I start to wonder. What if there is 1 true religion? What if all the others are deceptions to lead us astray? I still struggle with that. The bible says that there are many false religions, and many more will spring up.

One thing that is disturbing is all the goings on in the middle east. There are some prophecies in the bible that predict some of this, including the founding of Israel. There are also prophecies that allude to airplanes, if I remember corectly. Someone else here can clarify that, I'm sure.
Just a thought.
