Re: What an IO is best at

Interesting though that the companies that make an I/O and OB in the same length don't use that space. Example: the Four Winns Horizon 180. The OB has the exact same interior seating, but loses the single swim platform and transom jump seats. I'd say the I/O version has more "usable room" than the OB.

I guess it depends on what you use it for.

Re: What an IO is best at

It's sad that the 2014s are smaller and make worse use of the space than my 2004.
I agree. I understand that it's much cheaper and easier to use the same hull and components, but it seems that they could be more creative. I took a look at a few other manufactures (Crownline, Regal, Glastron, etc) and they all seem to do the exact same thing. The Bayliner 190's wasted space seems exceptionally bad...

The blob is blocking the glow off the water. Where is the swim platform and sunpad?

Right. The blob serves the purpose of preventing getting blinded....while also adding to the overall aesthetic of the picture.

Here's another shot from the same evening:

We actually get two swim platforms. Here is one of them:

In use:

And who needs a sunpad when you have enough floor space to lay down a full size air mattress and enjoy the scenery, in a bit more "intimate" setting.

Give a woman a sun pad, and the next thing she asks for is a bimini, 'cus its too hot in the sun. Then she wants a convertible top with side curtains.

You want a sun pad, climb on the tube.

That is more like a step. My platform is 8'6" wide. I could still put down the mattress too. Where do you put a center hook on something like that?

O/B powered cuddy, looks nice. U-shaped seating converts to sunpad with filler cushion.

That's a nice looking boat. Would look even nicer with a 200+ HP Yamaha SHO on the back of it in place of that gutless F150. The thing that kills me is the transom/splash well setup makes the last 2.5'-3' of the boat useless.

I like the Checkmate Pulsare 2000 BRX and it's rated for a 250HP :D

Easy there ... My boat would qualify for the latter, but definitely not the former.

The 595 O/BSC is rated for 300HP, and will actually handle some rougher conditions, wheras the Checkmate will not be as proficient.

Re: What an IO is best at

Don't get me wrong, I love all boats but looking at the OB powered boats I don't see the advantages. The wasted space for the splashwell is a huge sunpad on an IO with the engine under it. Not only does the splashwell take up the room of the sunpad you also have the engine hanging off the back of that. The swim platforms are 2 tiny ones on each side of the engine compared to a full size on an IO. The number of people who can work on a 350 dwarf the number who can work on an OB. The engine on an OB boat is an add on instead of part of the boat.

Amen. Sunpad. meh. I have carried hundreds of people, probably mostly female, around in small boats in my life time and never once has anyone looked for, asked about or wanted a "sunpad." I doubt my salty women would even know what one is. If you want to lay around, stay home. But I can assure you they have tans--good healthy working tans.

And I've never had a boat with a "swim platform" although I like a ski step--they tuck in nicely beside the outboard. All you need is 18", what am I supposed to do with the other 7 feet? Sit on it? Like a sunpad? Bor-ing.

So is all your boating day geared toward just sitting still? On my waters, you'd bounce off a sun pad or roll off a swim platform while underway. I guess since we can't run out of lake, we're always underway.

Lay on a sunpad, sit on a swimplatform, sounds like pretty lame sedentary boating to me--for those tired of being a couch potato and who want to be a

I don't run out of lake as quick as I run out of gas money!
