    Prealpha trim pump leak

There are 4, 1/4” 28 hex bolts holding the aluminum valve block to the pump base. They may even be loose, under the block there are 4 “O”rings and that is where the leak is. The “O” rings can be matched up at any auto store. Put a straight edge across the bolt holes and you will also see that...

Gimbal bearing of u joint noise?

This job is not as hard as it appears. With the upper gear housing and bellows removed straighten the tabs over the 6 bolts. Disconnect the same things you would do to pull an engine from a car. Remove the 6 bolts and the whole PDS housing comes out with the engine. The bearings and seals...

    1986 Mercruiser V-8 5.7L - overheating issue??

As Lou stated about manifold blockage another thing that happens is the plastic water pocket cover in the upper housing will melt because there is not enough water to put out the exhaust flame. With the lower dropped look to see if the cover is melted. When they melt they leak. Put a length...

    Thru hull exhaust

Sorry no pictures, it was when I had my shop years ago. Basically what it turns out to be is a swing joint. I believe you have 4” exhaust hose, the fittings will be close either way to the hose size.

    Repeated impeller failures, help

The best thing that people n the Donzi site say to do with a Bravo is to plumb a sea suction through the bottom and with a “Y” connection from the drive joining with the through hull before the pump your problems should be over. Greco STH-1000. 1” NPT scoop strainer IBV- 1000. 1”...

    Thru hull exhaust

I went to a plumbing supply warehouse and with a sample of the rubber exhaust hose was able to get 4 close 90* copper street els to make the connection. After I had them “clocked” I then silver soldered them together. I also had a boat that was made where the exhaust had to exit further out from...

    Engine alignment issue

Nice boat, what brand is it? You might get by if you remove the top nut on the mount, that worked for me a few times. If it is too low then you can shim under the mount on the cross brace. Or just go ahead and have the mount cut and re welded.

    Engine alignment issue

Mercruiser may still make a shorter mount that I have seen. When I had my shop I usually had a cut down mount that I would swap in. There used to be a Galaxy dealer here that would just pound the drive on no matter how bad the alignment was.

89 omc 460 dwell and point gap?

The dwell is 28-30 like you posted. The best way I found to get the dwell right is to ground the coil wire and with the plugs out spin the engine with the starter while watching the dwell meter. One thing I have always found that if you set the points with a feeler gauge the dwell is always...

I have had to remove the front mount and have a welding shop cut 1” out of the aluminum lower mount and re weld it to finally get the alignment correct.

Carbed Mercruiser 260 5.7L Missing Above 4000 RPMs

How about doing a wet compression test on all the cylinders before you start pulling the engine apart. Also the low reading may be caused by a cylinder not firing from a ignition or possibly the carburetor leaking through the float chamber plugs. There are places that specialize in Quadrajet...

    Tilt and trim

The trim limit switch on the models before 76 were designed to last until the boat was out of the warranty. To replace it was a major PITA.

    Vp aq125a aq270

The original Volvo propellers that work the best are the the “elephant ear” style. The flukes are very large and if you see one you will know what I am describing. The 125-151 engines have to turn up to at least 5k which is what they are designed for. If they are over pitched it hurts them.
