1971 Johnson 25hp convert to electric start?

Look for an electric start sister motor. Think of it as a parts motor (donor motor), but you might end up scavenging parts from the current motor to get a runner. Take detailed digital photos of your current motor, and compare to any possible parts motor. The starter mount must fit. I would...

    Slow starter turnover

Try jumping it from your truck or car. If it cranks well, the problem is likely your battery, However, a good cleaning of the starter and perhaps new brushes can work wonders. Sandpaper all connections until bright. When jumping, connect the pos cable to the lug on the side of the starter...

    1978 evinrude 150

Mod Edit - Competitor removed. The control is purely mechanical -- maybe the shift cable is the wrong length. Strikes me that I have one of those Power Pilots up on the shelf. May have to pull it down and see if I have a use for it -- or need to build a rig around the controls.

    70 Johnson 9.5 points?

(unlike my old lawnmower, I guess.) The key broke off and jammed the flywheel. My Dad used to talk about kickback when hand cranking a model - T. I was getting something like that.

    70 Johnson 9.5 points?

similar kickback with a lawnmower a couple of years ago -- turned out to be a sheared flywheel key, throwing off the timing. New key, and it fired up perfectly.

50:1 '90/'91 (guessing). Google the model number.

    88 Johnson 25 won’t rev

good carb and fuel pump, but maybe bad fuel (think water). Try a portable tank with a gallon of fresh mix.

Johnson 115 lower unit/ mid section leaks water. Is this normal?

probably wouldn't hurt to torque the nuts a little more (don't break them), but running on muffs will blow water all over the place from a bunch of openings.

    Evinrude 15hp hard start.

http://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1992&hp=15&model=E15RENM&manufacturer=Evinrude&section=Carburetor Might check 6, 17, 33. The nozzle well gasket (6) has to be in place. The gasket cover on top has to be the configuration shown. Washer 33 has to be in place or...

94 5.0 clicks but wont turn over

When you have the starter on your workbench, remove the two long bolts and open it up for cleaning. Use carb spray or brake cleaner liberally, and finish with air. Check the brushes and replace if worn. Just the cleaning may be enough to get you back on the water.

    Fouled Spark Plugs

Might adjust the air/fuel mix -- sounds like you need a leaner setting (clockwise).

    Strange starter issue.

GM starters have periodically used shims for years. Bendix gear (i.e., starter body) shimmed in to contact flywheel, particularly if flywheel worn. Sometimes just remounting the starter will get you going again. Auto Parts stores sell these shims. If you have the starter that gave you...

Johnson 60hp miss fire on middle cylinder

Check to be sure it's no longer overheating (infrared tester is nice to have). I would replace the head gasket after resurfacing the head (piece of glass and wet/dry sandpaper until equal shine all around).

    Final Straw.

Chance you are carrying a large load of water under the floor -- weight shifts fore and aft?

    1987 Evinrude 8 bogging down

Well, checked a diagram and your motor has (if original carb) a low speed mix needle on top (in front). That's an air/fuel mix adjustment. It sounds like it may be too rich (too much fuel, too little air). The initial setting is likely 1 to 1 1/2 turns (c.clockwise) from lightly closed...

    Johnson 1961 - 10hp - QD22 - Won’t Shift into Gear

not to insult you, but was the motor running when you attempted to shift? And did you or someone do some lower unit work recently (like water pump work). If the gearshift moved, but no gear change, it's likely the drive pin like kbait suggests.

    Local Evinrude mechanic needed

Initial low speed needle setting is 1 to 1 1/2 turns (counterclockwise) from lightly closed (clockwise). From there, adjust clockwise in small increments until the motor lean sneezes or quits. The open about 1/4 turn -- should be close, but don't be afraid to make slight adjustments. If...

    Final Straw.

Spark testers can be had cheaply at an auto parts store (adjustable, open air type, rather than the inline style). If the spark measures 1/2 inch and is sharp, the ignition is doing its job (stator and coils OK). For stator/rectifier function, you would also look for proper battery charging...

    1987 Evinrude 8 bogging down

Haven't looked at a diagram, but your primer probably has a red lever on the side -- should be parallel with the primer body for running.
