Ran into a reef & 10 hour service

"Take it to a dealer" makes me laugh. Assuming they have anyone on staff able to actually repair something like that is a (poor) joke. One in a hundred MIGHT. Kinda like getting a prop repaired on site. Hopefully you'll have insurance to pay for the new lower unit. I believe that's the only way...

Ran into a reef & 10 hour service

Faced with the potential of having it cut off and getting it welded (nothing to loose), I would use a hammer backed with a heavy bucking block (4-5 lbs at least). Used gently, I've straightened a couple of those, and broken one. Basically, about the same as straightening a lightly bent prop...

    Honda BF130 problems, needs input

IMHO, junk that head for sure. It's not even worth thinking about. The engine doesn't care about what the old #1 in the firing order was, or if the #1 piston is coming up on the compression stroke or the exhaust. The ignition fires that plug every time it comes the piston is at TDC regardless...

75hp Lower Unit - confirming reverse gear is engaged

I can't find anything detailing where the shift cable attaches to the shift linkage in the parts diagrams. Are you saying the cable attaches directly to the end of the link labeled #27 "coupling shift shaft" here...

75hp Lower Unit - confirming reverse gear is engaged

Agreed. The real detent, the one designed to hold it in gear once selected, is up in the powerhead.

It's clear to me this head is junk.

    Honda BF130 problems, needs input

Last head I had surfaced was 75.00, but that's been a couple of years. They will require you to remove the cam for that. They'll ask you if there's a max amount that can be removed spec. anywhere. I haven't seen one if there is. I just tell them to clean up an issue I'm concerned with by...

2nd the vote to leave the valves where they are until you have a better reason to remove them. If you'd like, load an oil can (trigger type preferred) up with some motor oil and have at it. For clean up, I use a 6" square of plywood with 120g sandpaper. Clearly whatever you use with sandpaper...

    Long shaft vs short shaft

It would be different if you were replacing a motor on a boat you had sentimental ties to. While shopping for a boat, keep looking....

75hp Lower Unit - confirming reverse gear is engaged

I'm going to go way out on a limb here, and tell you that it's impossible for that prop shaft to turn in the same direction with the shift detent on opposite sides of neutral. The shift shaft is sliding a clutch dog back and forth between the forward gear and the reverse gear. Neutral is...

    Honda BF130 problems, needs input

First, I'm not an expert on 130's. My experience is all on 40-90 hp. The bigger stuff is too hard for this old man to handle easily, and the small ones keep me as busy as I want to get.... Clearly you have a mess with that head, especially as concerning the areas that have perforated. I'd say...

    replacement pontoon furniture

I would call it exactly that - OK. And I believe Scott's note too. If you don't keep ANY vinyl furniture clean and covered, it's going to have a limited lifetime. Sun tears this stuff up in a hurry.

    Honda BF130 problems, needs input

No need to remove the pulley I don't think. I usually remove the idler pulley and just slide the belt up and off the cam pulley. Pretty easy. Tie the belt so its forward, out of your way while you're at it.... Timing marks won't be needed until you are reassembling.

75hp Lower Unit - confirming reverse gear is engaged

If you answer these questions, I may be able to give you a hand. You're telling us that when the drive shaft is turned, that no matter where the shift shaft is positioned, the prop shaft turns in the same direction? You do have neutral, right? Where the prop shaft does not turn when the drive...

    Honda BF130 problems, needs input

I have access to a small, very noisey 1.5hp air compressor and use that to blow away crud after I've been chipping for a while. An engine like this is going to be a big mess is my bet. Water isn't going to hurt anything, it just makes for an even bigger mess! Don't let the fact it's a 4 stoke...

    Honda BF130 problems, needs input

3rd picture is the head, which I hope we're already planning on removing. With patience that buildup isn't too hard to remove with the head sitting on the bench. The block may be a different story. With the condition of the motor now more clear, I'd be wasting no time in getting that head off...

75hp Lower Unit - confirming reverse gear is engaged

If you can engage a gear, makes no difference forward or reverse, on either side of neutral, you're good to go. Put the shift shaft in neutral position and reassemble. You're right on new impeller vanes of course, but you failed to mention they were new, and it's a bad habit to turn them...

    Pontoon Boat seats

I use Wise, purchased through Amazon. Just watch the prices. Depending on the season prices can double. They sell cushions (top and bottom only) or with base. Search "Wise pontoon seating". I've done several total rebuilds and have been happy with everything. Bucks spent for bang received...

Yup, you'll likely see the same stuff in the oil filler cap as well.
