Upper Water Tube Grommet Replacement 6hp 1985.

cprodave -- have in mind mounting the motor directly to the edge of the barrel, as some do. If using a wheeled stand of some sort, I'll guess the motor has enough set back. Unless you are testing on a boat underway in the lake, there will be more exhaust -- but sounds like you have it right...

Upper Water Tube Grommet Replacement 6hp 1985.

Think I would replace the powerhead gasket and replace the second silencer pad you identified (you have already replaced the o-ring on the shift lever, although I'm not sure that is an issue with the leaking). The powerhead on the 6 should lift off with a minimum of parts removed (starter cord...

    Holeshot repaired - Now Surging

sounds like that could be a ventilation issue -- trimmed too far out or motor not mounted low/deep enough on transom.

1958 Evinrude 7-1/2 Fleetwin carburetor overhaul

Try using a bladed screwdriver and a needle nosed pliers to install the plastic ties. Use the screwdriver as a fulcrum, holding the tie firmly in place, and pull the tie tight with the pliers.

2005 Johnson 90HP low RPM miss

Cannot test on muffs, as you probably know (runs lean, yielding a "lean sneeze" that can sound like a miss.)

    1957 Evinrude 5.5

Lindy knows his stuff, but I would use a 24:1 ratio to avoid potentially fouling plugs. Don't overlook the idle circuit that L. describes.

1959 Evinrude 5.5 fired up!! Prop depth?

Is that a troller permanently mounted on the starboard side of the transom? If so, the extra length might be needed for correct water depth. (i.e., non-adjustable motor mount).

    No Crank

Cranking here means turning over (not necessarily starting). Gather yours doesn't crank. Take sandpaper to the battery leads, and polish until shiny. Try moving the throttle lever back and forth slightly within the neutral detent while turning the start key (not sure if the safety switch is...
