Exhaust coming out under the power head

Make a stand for it, and test run it in a large trash can -- water a few inches above the pump. Better, just fill the can about half way up the leg of the motor. If the motor is mounted directly above the can (say on the side of the water barrel), exhaust will make it up to the carb and choke...

    79 35hp evinrude wet plugs

Your carb should have a low speed needle on top. To adjust the air/fuel mix, lightly close the needle clockwise, then open 1 1/2 turns. The engine should start with that initial setting, subject to adjustment after the engine warms up (likely a bit leaner -- clockwise).

    Losing a cylinder intermittently ‘86 50hp

Run some soft wire through the idle (top) and high speed jets, then follow by some carb spray using the plastic wand. I believe the top jet is open on your motor, and the bottom one has a hex bolt in front of it (front of carb bowl).

    Losing a cylinder intermittently ‘86 50hp

Think you need to check the idle with some back pressure (not on muffs). Also, the temps you cite after 10 minutes running are too low, imo, as you suggest. That also could relate to use of muffs.

    1956 Johnson 10 HP QD-17

Some info on sintered filters: https://www.filsonfilters.com/sintered-metal-filters -- possible source for a replacement filter as well. Airtight seal for the bowl is vital. (The bowl does not remain full in operation, btw.)

    Just a question

Lever (red grip) where you would expect to find the shift lever is the throttle lever.

1980 85 hp evinrude starting problems

Addressing scored cylinders is the priority for using the motor. Will add, though, that the best way -- only really effective way -- to ensure choke flappers are tightly closed is to reach in with a finger and make sure. For cold starting, the choke plate has to be tightly closed.

Evinrude 1975 85 hp electrical starting issue

If the boat is new to you and you are trying to test it out, be aware that you can spin it over pretty easily with a piece of rope. Turn the key to the run position and leave the battery hooked up (be a good idea to check polarity too). Motor in neutral.

1980 85 hp evinrude starting problems

If you have recleaned the carbs, run with a portable tank and fresh fuel at least to test.

    1979 70HP Evinrude throttle problem

Check the throttle linkages at the carbs and make sure they are intact. Additionally, make sure the remote throttle cable is secured, and the inner cable is not slipping.

1980 85 hp evinrude starting problems

If it's a primer system, as based on the model number, hold the key in while cranking. Once it starts, you may have to bump the key in to keep it running while it warms up. The red lever should be parallel to the primer body for normal starting and running. (may be time to rebuild the...

    1956 Johnson 10 HP QD-17

You hang it from the ceiling, or whatever, only an inch or two from the floor! Hanging height isn't material. Lube the shaft every day ... try ATF or ATF/acetone 50/50 mix.

Hang it upside down from the ceiling, with a furniture pad underneath. Let it be for a couple of days and see if it drops.

Yes. Need correct air gap with the flywheel magnets.

    Johnson 175 bad compression

2 reasons for some hope. Might have been set up for premix (above), so use a portable tank with a 50:1 mix to test. Also, get your hands on another compression tester (borrow from an auto parts store, possible), and retest. Do the compression test first -- if as bad as it appeared, don't try...

    87 15hp (J15ECUD) No power under load.

Additionally, if it struggles or quits when shifting into gear, the throttle idle speed might be set too low, or the air/fuel mix is a little too lean.

    Losing a cylinder intermittently ‘86 50hp

Since you say the problem started after the boat was unused last fall/winter, it sounds like a routine carb issue -- depends on how it was stored. Pull off plug boots one at a time and see if there is a change in rpm at idle. If no change, that cylinder is probably not firing up. Do a spark...

Have you pulled the flywheel on that motor?

    Losing a cylinder

Inline tester is too subjective imo, with no offense to kbait. An adjustable open air tester will better tell you if there is acceptable ignition output. You need to see (and hear) a bright snap at something around 1/2 inch, or a bit less. Pull it over with the plugs out if the starter isn't...

Dual fuel line Johnson bogs and overheats

Get an open air spark tester (not the in-line enclosed style). Pull the plugs to reduce compression, and test by pulling it over with the rope starter.
