    Correct me if I am wrong but what if the switch which is on the shift linkage that certifies that the drive is fully in gear is not closing wouldn’t that also prevent the engine from full RPM? I also realize that the engine may just be in protection mode.

    You may have a stuck valve. Remove the valve cover, loosen all the rocker arms and then try turning it. That will narrow down where the problem could be. Maybe Santa will bring you some good luck!

    AD, I had forgotten about the way the “Y” blocks set the timing, however every Ford since that style lines up with the marks @ 12 & 6 o’clock crank to cam. The Ford “Modular” OHC engines are a whole new game.

    Put a small wire wheel on a drill and clean the rust and dirt off the balancer. There will be ATC and BTC stamped on it with the “0” prominent plus the degree marks. Should be 10, 20, 30 with straight lines between the numbers.
