    Is this a 56 model / 66 model an 86 model or 96 model ??----On 74 to 92 models at the back / underneath of the lower cowling there is a latch.-----Release it and the cowling might fall off.

    The melted " sponge thingy " is the switch that sounds the horn on overheat.-----But then there are thousands of these motors out there that have never had the horn tested.

    Find a priced right ( $500 or less ) Johnson / Evinrude 90 / 115hp---from 1980 to 1990.----Rebuild it and go boating for years to come.

    Wiring repairs appear to be " guess work " and poorly done.----Powerhead like that would come apart here to see if anything can be salvaged.

    Depends on the local market ?----Depends on if you can do your own repair work.-----Or do you have a dealer / boat shop that works on these motors.----So what is your location ?----What is the asking price ?-----These motors are no longer made and many shops will not work on them.

    Motor appears to be a 77 model.-----If you get this boat , it will likely need some work under the floor.-----Looks simpler than many fancy boats.

    It seems the extra long models have a different set-up than long models.----If I had the parts in front of me it might be easy to figure out.---I have some long models to look at but no extra long in the shed.-----Sorry.

    If a compression test is good it should be last for many years.----Install a new water pump impeller if you become the proud owner.

    Put a 90 HP 2 stroke on it.----Comes in at 300 lbs.

    There is a hole covered by top part of the recoil.-----Maybe just needs a new gasket there.

    Hook up a timing light.----One cylinder at a time.------you want steady flashing of the light.

    Looks like pre-ignition damage on #1 piston.-----Or overheating.----Many of these in line six motor need a new impeller every 3 years or so.----Many do not have an overheat warning horn either.
