    Is the motor running while you try and shift ?-----Or if not running are you turning propeller while shifting ?------These lower units are not considered robust .----What does gear oil look like?-----How did it shift for you last season ?

    Normal to see water from tell tale after lots of cranking.-----There is no reason for the motor to be " hard to start " after carburetor work.-----Time for some trouble shooting.-----Post your compression values.

    That has to be drilled in the correct position to line up the throttle grip.-----The OP is busy making a replacement I would say.

    Major damage on the front may be difficult to repair.----Involves the shifting bits and a bearing housing that accurately positions the forward gear.

    So is your motor a tiller motor ?-----Pictures show a remote motor.----------Been converted to remote ?------You totally looking this up wrong.----go to ----evinrudeparts.ca-----And find the part numbers for this motor !!-----Look on the cylinder / crankcase page.

    They say that in many gated communities the old folks use electric golf carts.-----You need a 6 pack on board.-----This is so that when your batteries run down you can ask a new friend to plug in for 1/2 hr while you share stories of your grand kids.

    Most vehicles do generate now ( via braking ) to help maintain battery charge.-----But yes there are many wild theories from those who were asleep in physics classes.-----And if you look it up , in 86 they did an experiment in Russia on how to generate power while a machine was slowing down.

    Actually I think the gear is a ---" sintered " ---material and hard to weld that stuff..----I believe the OP now has enough ideas to repair this simple part.

    There are some very entertaining motor experts on google / u-tube.-----One guy was driving dowels out of a Johnson V-4 block in the wrong direction.----Then in another video he repeated the mistake on a V-6.------But in general it gives you the confidence to " have a go at it "

    Post pictures of the damage.-----With a V-6 it is likely the 800 lower gearcase.-----Similar to the V-6 outboards.
