    can anyone settle a friendly argument about an oldish motor ?

    a beer is on the line! my buddy and i had identical small motors, mine was an evinrude, his was a johnson. the throttle was a lever on the side, where you would normally see a shifter.....motors had no f/n/r. i say they were 3hp early 70's, he says 4hp late 70's. (this was a looong time ago)...

    what was just given to me????

    just had an older motor given to me, its in BAD shape but the powerhead feels like it has good comp. it loks like its been painted many many times, so i cant tell what the original colour was. the model /serial tag is rough but im pretty sure its a model 3042 evinrude. what is it?

    can you repair the old pressure tank dual line couplings?

    are the old pressure tank couplings rebuildable? if so, whats the procedure? (the retro fitted air/hydraulic quick connect fittings hanging from the side of my cd 14 work well, but id really like to make things right!)

    the cowl for my johnson cd 13 (motor needs powerhead) is not in such great shape but i still want to sand and paint it. my question is reguarding "no sanding required" primer. the cowl has some pitting in places and i would like to keep things as smooth as possible, can no sanding required...

    automotive 80w90 gear oil vs marine 80w90 gear oil. is it only $$$$

    why cant automotive gear oil be used, what elixer is added to marine gear oil, and if its that much better, should i use marine oil in my rear end (truck rear end! lol).

    1957 cd 14, confusion about oil mix?

    have read two different ratios ......is it 24/1....or 16/1? im barrel running/working on it at 16/1 and its a first pull motor when cold.....pull the cord 8 inches when warm and it runs like a top. should i go with the weaker mix or stay at 16/1?

    are those old pressure tanks as dangerous as some would suggest? i like to have a cigar while fishing, and the thought of fuel under pressure is a lil bit scary....any comments? id like to do the conversion but with the motor being run .....gravity feed for fuel, and a short piece of line...

    1956 jonson 5 1/2.....is it worth spending money on?

    the old motor has no fire?.......good compression on #1 cyl......low on #2. would like to restore it, but dont want to get into a money pit. is it even worth trying......or should i send her to the scrap heap?
