What is everyone paying for a slip this year?

We finally took the plunge yesterday and rented a slip on Lake Erie. For the past several years we've had her at a State Park but that's starting to get a little boring. 25' Slip with electric $1008 for the season here

    Any tips for camper tops?

We're considering a camper top for next year. Custom made. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips or warnings? How do they hold up? We have a bimini...do they incorporate that or start new?

Fried a wheel bearing today..it was impressive

On my way to a local lake. One more time out before layup. Looked in the rearview and there was a copious amount of smoke coming off the passenger side rear tire. At first I thought I'd blown a tire out until I piulled over and realized I'd completely destroyed a wheel bearing. Grease...

    My muriatic acid thoughts

I went ahead and tried the muriatic acid on my hull today. The results were a 7 on a 10 scale. With a bit of scrubbing the brown waterline stain came off nicely. The marine growth was a bit tougher. Let me back up a bit. I tried it in a pump sprayer at about 60% strength. In hindsight I...

    Broken Cabin door

The only victim of our wild ride to PIB was the top cabin door. Hard to describe but it's hard plastic, on a piano hinge, and opens towards the bow. There is a bottom hinged part that closes first and them the top part covers the door. Where am I going to find something like that? It'll look...

Got away with a stupid decision

Wanted one more trip to the Erie Islands before layup. Bad case of 'get-there-itis'. Tuesday was a lousy day. Cold, rain, wind. We left for Sandusky in the early afternoon (2 hour drive). Weather promised to let up around 6pm. Never mind that small craft advisary  Decided to go...

    Tear in exhaust boot

Not the bellows. This is the rubber part coming off the manifold. There is about a 2 inch tear and it's spraying water. I want to do a temporary fix and get it fixed right during the off season. I'm thinking something along the lines of an RTV type product. ANy tips would be appreciated.

    Pretty soon

Noticable chill in the morning air means only one thing to me. Pretty soon the boating season in Ohio will be coming to an end :( . Get out there and enjoy what little time you have left. Soon the thread will be filled with winterizing questions.

PIB after labor day on a weekday?

Trying to fit in one more trip out to the western islands. Anyone have any ideas if anything is open during the week at Put-in-Bay or Kelley's after labor day?

Would the lack of an exhaust bellows...

..affect performance? I'm thinking that the prop would be trying to screw cavitated water.

    Stupid question

I've noticed over the last couple of years that some of the larger boats I've seen at dock have a constant flow of water being pumped out. Almost like a bilge pump. There couldn't be that much water in these boats.

    Here's a new one (long)

After 2 weeks we were very excited to get our rig back. Backed it into the driveway to hook up the muffs and survey the work that had been done. Very excited. Didn't back it in as far as I normally do but what the hell. Excited to see the work and finally hear that V8 purr. Unhooked the...

    Are you a 'squeaky wheel'?

My rig is still at the mechanics. It's been there since Saturday when I took it back after discovering that it wasn't fixed correctly from being towed in off the lake 2 weeks ago. We drove by yesterday and it hasn't moved from where I dropped it Saturday. No call today to tell me about the...

    Sometimes I wonder...

I've been having some charging issues with my rig. Last time ended up being towed in. Long story short power to the trim but nothing else...dead. Took it to my mechanic. The very next day he calls and tells me it was a fuse in the dash. Awesome! I was suspicious but what the hell. SInce I...

    Some days...

It twas the best of times. It twas the worst of times. Had my share of both yesterday. I've been battling charging issues and thought I had them under control. Beautiful day here in Ohio yesterday. Mid 80's...not humid. Perfect day for boating. Dunked my rig and took off. Tooled around...

    conflicting info

Sorry about the cross post but I'm at home todayu and trying to figure out why I'm having problems with my charging system. This is getting interesting. To double check the gauge on my dash I used a voltmeter at the battery. According to the meter at idle the alternator is putting out about...
