    Good deed for the season

Made a deposit to the Karma bank yesterday. We went out on Salt Fork yesterday afternoon. Beautiful day here in Ohio. Oh the way back in went by a small Bayliner. Captain motioned to the motor. Long story short we were able to give him a tow to the ramp. In the process we made a new friend.

I was never good at putting my toys away

And now that Fall has arrived in Ohio I'm delaying it as long as possible. We didn't get our rig until the end of June and I'm feeling a bit depressed about the season ending. We're planning on having it ready to go until the end of October on the off chance of a nice day coinciding with our...

My rig died at the ramp...yikes!

Ran up to a local lake tonight...days like this can't be wasted. We did our usual routine...I backed down the ramp...hopped out...she tries starting...runs a couple of seconds and dies. I figured it would start so I pull the trailer out and park. Come back...still dead. Turns over but won't...

    Ohio River-E. Liverpool

Put in there last week. It was disappointing to say the least. Can someone tell me where to put in on the Ohio that has some charm and character? Looking at industrial plants is not my idea of scenic river cruising.

How much does prop condition affect performance?

My prop looks used. A couple of very small dings on the leading edges and the faces of the blades are pitted and the paint is worn off. I'm wondering how much that affects the overall performance.

    Want more speed

Trying to get some prop ideas. Prop now is a 15 1/2 x 15 aluminum...not sure who made it Drive ratio is 1.41 5.8L 230 hp Boat weighs 3700 dry Typical operation is 2 - 4 adults As it is right now trimmed up I'm getting 32mph at 4200 rpm. I think it'll go faster. Advice please.

    Passenger car tire load ratings

I've read plenty about using trailer specific tires. I was researching load ratings and started wondering. Let's use my rig as an example. Trailer weight 1,000 lbs Boat weight 3,700 lbs Misc gear 500 lbs Total 5,200 lbs On a tandem axle trailer is it reasonable to say...

    New carb adjustments

In a quandry as to whether to attempt a rebuild or buy a reman carb. It's been awhile since I was involved in repairs like this. I'm not confident I have the skillset or tools required to do a rebuild. My question is...if I plunk down $500 for a reman carb how much is involved in setting it...

    Carb rebuild/replace?

As I'm digging into my I/O more the carb looks nasty. Black grime all over it. The reason I'm doing the tune-up is my rig has been running badly at idle. Where I boat there is a no-wake zone that takes the better part of 15 minutes to get out of. By the time I'm ready to throttle up the...

    Spark plug replacement question

Not 5 minutes into the tune-up and I'm stumped. The plugs to the rear of the motor...clearance between the plug and the manifold is so tight I can't get a wrench on the plug. I can get a socket on the plug but can't get the wrench on the socket. I shouldn't have to remove the manifold to...

    Drive clunk

Doesn't happen all the time but every now and then I hear and feel a good clunk in the drive after I shift into forward. The drive engages, prop is spinning and about 3-4 seconds after that...clunk. Very unnerving. Edited to add: I think it happens after I've gone form R to F. Any ideas?

    Retrieving alone

I'd really like to get my rig out of the water today. Problem is it's just me and my trailer. It's not a busy ramp so I don't think leaving my trailer submerged while I get back in the boat is a problem...but what then? I can see myself driving onto the trailer...what next?

    What's the real story here?

Anyone ever heard of this guy? I always watch this type of "investigating" with a sceptical eye. Seems like some sensationalism by the media but there might be something... http://www.king5.com/video/index.html?nvid=386241

Muffs v. trash can full of water

Seems to me muffs don't really duplicate actual running conditions. Would it be better to lower my drive into a trash can full of water?

    Spark plug confusion

OEM manual calls for Autolite ARF-32M plugs. I get 2 different results when I try to cross-reference to Champion. One site say RV12YC Champion, the other calls for RBL11Y. NGK part # is UR5. Why is this so difficult?

    Tune-up parts marine specific?

or can I just go to the parts store and get the wires, cap, rotor, points, and condenser?

    Ethanol

OK...I did search but the threads are so numerous that I figured this would be better. Filled up with marine gas at the state park marina yesterday. $3.70/gal. Not even a full tank...I had 1/4 when I started. $109.00 later got me thinking. From what I've read ethanol will seperate after a...

drive noise? how much is too much?

When I'm running at or near idle speed I can hear my drive working. It's not making any strange noises but I can definitely hear all that metal spinning. Is this normal?

    Extra key on the boat?

It's about an hour and 15 min. drive to where I do most of my boating. Yesterday, we were in the lane getting ready when a sick feeling came over me...Did we remember the key? Normally we jokingly have this conversation at home before we leave. Turns out we did have it but what if we'd...
