Rant: Can't catch a break with weekend weather...

I totally agree, did not see any mention of ice and winter fishing..the poster made it sound like they were new at boating and a fear of falling in. I can tell you one thing, if the deck was slippery for any reason, I would not be standing on it !

    Aluminum boat leaking

Most older boats have small leaks, but not many people put in the maintenance time to fix them, or...they don't fix them correctly. Way to many good quality sealants on the market today to not spend some time fixing those leaks.

    Aluminum boat leaking

A small leak is no big deal unless there is some chance of damage being done like wet wood, or water soaked foam. Over the years I had a few utility skiffs, nothing fancy, just a big rowboat. So what if it leaked a gallon, hardly noticed it, just pulled the plug on the way home. If you have a...

That stinks not having some place indoors to work on your boat, mother nature rarely cooperates.

Setting carburetor float height, Mercury 2-stroke 50hp

Most of mine have come from Ebay, digital downloads are available if you post model name and serial number. I found a download for my I/ O but was almost 900 pages...most were blank pages for notes and pictures. From my thumb drive I just printed out the pages I needed when I needed them...

Rant: Can't catch a break with weekend weather...

If falling in the water is a concern, perhaps the boating skills need some upgrade. Never been in the water unless I intended to do so. If you need to get in the water to load or unload your boat, you need a different setup. Lots of dangers when wading around the launch ramps, actually where...

    Perpetual Debt

When I say paying cash, it is a figure if speech. Most of the time I use my CC for the purchase then pay it off within 6 months or usually less. The reason is....if I have any issues with what I buy, the CC company will go to bat if there is an issue. Either stop payment, or hold payment, or...

Setting carburetor float height, Mercury 2-stroke 50hp

If your going to keep that motor, get a real factory service manual and use the Clymer for toilet paper when your roll goes empty.

Rant: Can't catch a break with weekend weather...

Are you going for a boat ride or going swimming ? I would never swim when 50-60 degrees but fishing in that temp is fine if you dress for it !

    Aluminum boat leaking

Not going to be easy, so get ready to get down inside with a flashlight when you are in the water. Going to take some time and hard looking, but you will find it with enough patience. Make sure the boat inside is good and dry before you start. Finding leaks from the outside are more of a...

    Trailer tires.

Cheap or expensive, I have never had a trailer tire wear out. Dry rot and get punctures yep....but worn out...never ! I have been a boat owner for over 60 years and numerous other trailers along the way. Then again, I don't do much cross country trailer ing and that can add a whole different...

    Stuck oil filter

That is why the screws or pins need to be tightened on the piece of flat stock, they need to be ridged and held in place while you use it as a wrench. Adjust the dia of the pins/ screws so they will fit into those holes.

    Stuck oil filter

Based on your pic....find a piece of flat stock steel, drill two holes spaced the distance across two of the holes in the housing. Drop some bolts or pins thru the steel arm and you have created a form of spanner wrench. Drop the pins/ screws into the holes in the housing and yank or beat with...

    Perpetual Debt

Having been a boat owner for well over 60 years, while raising a family, always had a separate budget for the boat. That budget never took away from family expenses, often worked 2 or even three jobs to fund what the family needed along with funding my boating hobby. Going into debt for boats...

    How much is it worth?

Would not spend that kind of money on a used glass boat without a good survey !! While the boat looks nice, there could be many thousands in hidden damage that only a pro could find. If the owner doesn't want to do a survey, then run away !

    Which kicker mount to install?

Bottom line is....I don't think anyone would recommend just screwing into the fiberglass, no matter how many screws you put in. Without some form of backing plate or large fender washers at minimum you definitely need to access the inside surface of where the mount will attach.
