Mercruiser EC Exhaust Manifold Overheat - Help Please

I am not thinking Bravoitis since I think it was fixed on the later year Bravo drives. i’m in the camp of clogged elbows. Take them off and clean the daylights out of them. Also run a descaling solution through the raw water side to clear out the heat exchanger. If the water going to the...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I feel like I am attending the NMEA2000 'school of hard knocks'. I went to add a network connection to my Garmin GPSMap . . . I got a 'drop' cable . . . went to hook it up . . . oopps !!! male-2-male connection. . . no worky  . I guess the end resistor is supposed to be there on the...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I was not sure if the sender was the USA type (33-240) or the EU type (0-180), but confirmed it is the USA. My Veratron gauges have an analog input for the fuel sender and it is selectable as to USA or EU. I believe it also has a custom range setting. So, it is converting resistance to a %...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

FWIW - the tank is 20-21" deep (high), as the fuel sender is 20"

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The sender is in the middle of the tank (which makes sense) . . . I took the sender out for some bench testing. The tank is pretty much empty . . . might be a gallon or so towards the back. The tank looks fine. The sender does have some issues in a couple of the ranges. . . . In the...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

OK, I only needed to pump out 8 more gallons until I got air. (using the fuel pick-up fitting). (48 gallons pumped out, total) So, my data looks like this. . . . . The sender sort of works . . . . but the readings are quite erratic . . . they over-state, and then under-state, the...

It goes in the cars and whatever else needs gasoline. :p

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Yesterday was 'Fuel Off-loading Day 1' . . . I pumped out 40 gallons of gasoline from the boat (so far). At 5 gallons intervals, I checked the fuel gauge to see what its reading was. Each year I pump out until I get air, then I add back enough for fogging of the engines. The next year I...

    bravo 1 u joint

I would check the alignment. U-joints don't like to turn all the way, particularly with power applied. A u-joint can feel OK, but be worn enough to cause the noise/vibration that you are experiencing.

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I just hid the incorrect data on the Veratrons . . . Showed trim level and fuel gauge instead . . . . . 19 hours on the Honda display is the correct data. Onto the port engine . . . yesterday was all learning curve, but today went smoother. . . Oil changes are a lot easier than with the...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The middle gauge act as a speedometer, but it is tied to the port engine for data. not the best solution - I’m not thrilled with the Veratron gauges

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

OK I discovered something weird . . . . . I usually look at the round gauges (Veratron) for engine hours and today noticed they were at 37 hours  . But my Honda display tells the real story . . . Just under 20 hours. I may have left the key on overnight, but if so, it only...

Mercruiser EC Exhaust Manifold Overheat - Help Please

BTDT . . . I had (past tense) a Cruisers Yacht 338 with the Mercruiser 6.2L Seacore engines. . .{converted it to outboards} . . . I started getting exhaust overheats and it would go into guardian mode (3000 RPM limited). I tried to clean out the elbows using oxalic acid. It improved it...

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Oil change day . . . I got the starboard engine done, on to the port engine . . . With 11 qts of oil in each engine, it really comes flying out once the plug is un-fastened.

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I have sea level in my back yard . . . . . The house (first floor) itself is about 12 ft above mean high tide. We rarely see any water rise from a storm though, since the winds are often off shore during such.

[SPLASHED] I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

The past few days, I've been back & forth to the boat (just outside the garage) to do the grease gun stuff and change the lower unit lube. Every time I'd get out there when the rain stopped, it would quickly start up again. So as not to accidentally get any drops of water in the LU, I'd...
