    1976 Evinrude - Metal vs. plastic water pump housing?

    I thought that OMC originally sold metal pump housings as "H.D. Chrome Water Pump" for silt-laden or salt water. I've got one new in the box for my 9½. I am guessing the stock aluminum housing & the chrome version aren't the same thing. Mine looks cast & iridescent, not shiny like bumper chrome.

    The gas tank from the 5.5 can be used on a 9.9. Other than that... Even the spark plugs are different. Maybe the drain & fill plugs from the lower unit can be?

    It appears from the diagram that the o-ring (7) sets in the groove in the middle of the bearing (8). It probably has to stretch A LITTLE to fit snug.

    Here's a picture of the pee-stream exposed with the lower shroud removed. Mine is a TN but a TD & TS also have the same tell-tale water outlet despite the fundamental water pump differences. The water comes out of a controlled orifice below the nut on the water pipe, shown below.
