By the way EZ, I used my compressor and sprayer and hooked up the water separator. I did get water in the line but don't know why and that is what you see under the splashwell. I did overcoat the primer and got a few runs, but not enough to justify the runs you see. All is well since it is primer, but I would like to know why.

Looks good, I'm sure that 8" makes all the difference in the world when you are in the boat.

Hope there's enough room for that outboard to tilt up, looks like it should be fine.

Thanks Mike. Yes Sir I have room to tilt...I hope. The one thing I forgot to mention is I plan on a Jack Plate too which gives me an additional 4-6" setback. At least thats the plan if I can find one. Still a work in progress....

I am confused because it is a deck paint, but they say its not waterproof? I have only one concern and that is will it hold up to petroleum products.(gas & oil). I have been told this is what I want but what is the opinion of the masses? I do like the fact it is tintable.

Well I've certainly had great luck with all the other Valspar porch & floor type paints I've used. Great coverage and dries quickly. Maybe they just mean don't paint a swimming pool with it.

yeah but then your coupler/u-joints/gimbel/bellows/blower will all wear out on the same day and you'll realize you were just being silly.

Had great plans for Saturday, but company came over and well...not much work done.:facepalm:
But today I was up & attem. I want to paint the consoles, splashwell, and gunwales all at once and hopefully finish the 'painting' aspect. I decided to attack the gunwales. The rub rail rubber and trim had to be removed, lots of rivets had to go.

I mean a ton of rivets. I had to work the rubber loose and I am honestly concerned about re-installing it. I am sure I can find help because others have done it. I did discover that I had a lot of rivets that were loose or missing. TIP: Gentlemen even if you are staying with the original gunwale metal, please check all the rivets. Not only is the rattle factor in place, it does effect the structure strength.

After I removed the rubber and trim, I got a good look at the bow construction. Not much there.

I had all my pieces so I laid them out on the new sheet metal and traced them out, including some needed rivet holes for referance.

It was then I realized the rivets I had removed were 5/32" in diameter. Dang. I have 1/8" and 3/16". I went into the house for a break. While I sat for a brief period I realized I don't need the 5/32" rivets...I can re drill all the holes and use a combination of what I do have.:facepalm: Stupid Dale!

When I removed my rub rail trim and the inside trim, the rivets holding the gunwalls just snapped up like pretzels. Didn't have to drill any of them out. Now that I have replaced them, it has to be stronger.

I too am curious as to how to replace the rub rail rubber as it was not the easiest to remove.
