Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain

i see you nail the Real Lunkers like i do...my avatar pic is a real fish that really did hit a lure as big as it was. life underwater must be fast and brutal........

From what I see on the television and magazines, everyone's getting the big ones. It takes a real fisherman, to get a fish to got after something that's the same size as it is.....

Unfortunately the alarm went off at 0400 to go to work but tonight, its gonna be me and my buddy Jim B.
TreeRat pot pie is one of my favorites, smoked is my #1 choice. Helping of dry rub, low temp, and a bit of cherry wood.....

Good to see you made it back safe and sound. Snow, blustery winds and clogged W/S wipers will make you appreciate her more when you splash. :D

Beam, Crown, or a little Shine is always worthy.. :) I have made and smoked a lot of venison sausages over the years but never smoked the rats. Thanks, something new to try.

Ball them up first, keeps them from drying out too much.

I forgot to comment on the tires. She didnt sway too much, even with the crosswinds. However I hit a section of I-94 that's grooved and thought I was going to die! The tires tracked the grooves and pulled the truck with it.

There is a section of 131 N of Plainwell that does that to my wagon, it is also grooved. Always make me think I have a tire going down or some other issue.

We have the motor out of the donor boat and I hope to have it to the machine shop by mid January.

Edit: Someone(shop owner) cut the fuel line during the engine removal from the donor and left the hose laying in the bilge. The tank is in the bow of the boat and now there is a large slick flowing across the parking lot.

Yah good insurance is a must, I have State Farm for all my boats, trailers, cars and house. I'm not crazy about the online insurance companies, it's nice to know your agent when you have a claim.

Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain

I have applied for quotes from;
BoatUS
SkiSafe
Geico
NBOA

Each of them have come back with the same questions on, Price Paid, and Agreed Value. BoatUS will not offer anything but Liability for a boat I only paid 250 bucks for without a hull survey.

How do you guys place a value on your restores?
How do you guys come up with a Value?

Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain

There is no set schedule for restorations on cars and boats or even houses for that matter. Houses of course can be appraised for the value of the upgrades. The dollar amount of boats and cars being substantially lower doesn't seem to give the insurance company I have much concern. On my last boat I called the State Farm agent and told him what I did and he asked me what the new value was so I told him. Naturally your premium for coverage goes up as the value increases. With State Farm I have a policy for loss and damage on the restored boat. My trucks insurance extends to the towed unit to have the coverage on the road so the biggest worry is taken care of there. The boat insurnace kicks in when it's unhooked or launched.

stated value coverage is a good idea on a restored old crock like these. if something happens to boat, you don't want the addtl heartache of getting screwed on the claim.

From the reading I have done, The heavily directional tires like to track in the grooves, most trailer tires are directional. The benefit of trailer tires are they have a higher pressure and stiffer sidewalls making them less prone to syawing. My SunRunner trailer tires are 95 psi and were a pain to get mounted onto the rim, sidewall wouldn't cooperate...

On Insurance,
Hagerty has the most favorable quote. They are by far not the cheapest but they specialize in Classic/Restoration Watercraft. I like that they did not ask for a $400.00 Certified Marine Hull Survey to get insurance on a 15' Starcraft JetStar. Although, They have requested a survey, on their forum, to be filled out by a "Marine Yard".

Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain

I'm taking the 6th-8th off to get this old gal in motion. Coldest days of the year according to the forecast....

Picked up some LED trailer lights and wiring that I'm hoping to get on first thing Monday and then shes off to the scales....because the SCALES ARE DIFFERENT IN MICHIGAN AND OHIO WONT ACCEPT THEIR WEIGHT SLIP:eek:......

I'm looking into ordering the engine rebuild kit for the 2.5l Mercruiser, You guys have any recommendations?

Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain

That's plain silly the OH won't accept a MI weight slip. Is this for the bare trailer or fully loaded with the boat?
