Re: Floor fiberglass help.
Yesterday was just one of those days that really made me want to give up

First, I went out to the garage to start putting in the fuel tank (with 6 gals of gas) I tested the sending unit and thank god, it still works. I go to grab my drill and see that it's covered in a bunch of white stuff. I have no idea what it is, but my drill is totally dead. None of the buttons would rotate, the torque selector was stuck. It was gone. So I ran to sears (I wanted specificallly a new craftsman 19.2 v drill just like the one I had) and picked up a new hammer drill for 80 bucks. I went back, put the tank in to fidn out I was out of OB oil. SO I had to run to K mart but all their oil was expired and the gas station "2 cycle oil" was for air cooled engines only. So I drove another 40 mins to wal mart an dpicked up a gallon of oil. ALl said and done, I ran the motor and it was dying in idle. I gave it a few low speed carb adjustments and I think I fixed it. Then It was time to "glass and gelcoat the floor" (that was my goal for yesterday. Howeve,r I got a late start with all the drill issues and so forth so I changed my goal to be just glass in the floor. I go to test fit section 2 of the floor and it doesn't fit and the wood warped. F*&^!! I trimmed teh wood downa nd it was just all messed up. I had 1/2" gaps and 1" overlaps and it was just a mess. An hour of measuring and jigsawing later I got it to fit, but it didn't fix the warp. I tried paddign the stringer with wood that I was going to glass on and leave there, but nothing helped except clamping the wood. So I PB'd the outsides, clamped and weighted the wood down the way I wanted it and waited for the PB to set... and waited... and waited. It didn't set at 130 AM so I threw in the towel and called it a night. I went out this AM first thing and it actually looks like it held up pretty well. I'm not steppign anywhere but in the ski locker and on the gunwales until I get it fully glassed in, hopefully tomorrow... and that first layer of gelcoat. It just really sucked having to re-do things that I thought were done.. cutting and measuring and precoating.. I think that the resin caused the wood to expand and warp. either way, it was just miserable. Here's a pic of the sole as it is right now, The deck plate was there just for measuring, it's not permanent yet. The front "T" piece is glassed in and strong
UH, WOAH!? we can upload pics directly from our computers now!! Cool, thanks Iboats
