Dang brutha, that SUCKS!!!

Finally I might have some skillz to offer up from my old house building days. If what Wood suggests doesn't work, all is not lost (except some glass). Grind/Sand off the glass on one side, then try Woods trick again. Another option is to set up a heater under it so that as your water soaked rags cool you still get heat to help warp it back.

Good luck man!

Re: 1979 Imperial

Thanks for the ideas and support brethren...

Upon further data collection, it's a combo of warp of the transom, and bowing of the skin.

Well... I can drive my Yukon on this 1.5" thick glassed monster and it does not move. I'm not gonna mess with heat, and trying to warp it straight, I just believe it's not gonna happen... So before I trash it, I'm going to build up the indent with hairy PB, CSM, trying to make the transom's mating surface to the boat skin contour as straight as possible. I'll be adding this CMC unit to mount my outboard as it doesn't have trim/tilt http://cook-mfg.net/cart/index.php?..._id=14&zenid=7b4602be50f42eca7bb3b29783f13315 I don't believe the stern needs to be perfectly straight like brutha Patrick states, and this trim unit doesn't even hang over the transom, it directly bolts to it. I figure when PB'ing the transom to the skin, applying extra deep PB to ensure good bond, tabbing with CSM and 1708, it should be bullet proof... Does this sound like a plan?

Good afternoon...

Crazy weather! 60 degrees in Wisconsin on March 10th. ? I'll take it... Talking 70's this week!

Anyhow, I added 3 layers of CSM increasing width by 2-3" with each layer.. I'll let this kick and check the fit out...

Looking good bear! The jack plate looks like it'll do the trick, & then some!

Do you think the transom ply warped while the initial layups of glass & poly cured? As apposed to when you lam'd the 2 sheets of 3/4" ply together?

It's crazy you laid up all that glass & I can hardly tell after it was wetted out w/ poly..... Late bloomer? You definitely got a knack for glassing!:D

Re: 1979 Imperial

T$ and I installed the transom today! It's bonded with thick hairy PB, and filleted to the hull.

The WOG clamps rule!

I hear or feel no voids betwixt skin and transom. It's overbuilt I think... I could mount twin 225's on the rear...

It's good to be moving forward...

Thanks for the encouragement as always!

The filleting looks good!!! Glad the clamps worked out for ya!!!;) Now you're ready for some SERIOUS glassin. Do you have the sides and bottom of the hull ground down, ready for the tabbing layers? That should be next on your agenda, IMHO

Outstanding work Bear! And possible upgrades to twin 225's!?!?! Sweet!

Ok, maybe a pipe dream.....

You've really found a 2nd calling w/ the 'glassing! I suspect it greatly exceeds JL's exacting standards for seaworthiness & quality of workmanship.:)

What say you wrap this up expeditiously & I freight a little ole FireFlite out your way for some TLC & transom work! Hmm?!? If it were a floating, I could just head down the Ohio & eventually make my way to Wisconsin......

Re: 1979 Imperial

Morning gang,

Thanks for all the complements on the transom install... Next I plan to grind down al the sharp nibs, and tab it in... I'm thinking a 8" layer of 1.5 oz CSM then 6" of 1708, followed by a 8" layer of 1708, all wet lay-ups... I really feel a layer of CSM between the two layers of 1708 is overkill... Please feel free to convince me otherwise...

I am also gettin close to final decisions weather to paint or gel. After talking with my supplier (also a pro boat builder) he recommends spraying gel... I just don't have the right compressor to do it correctly... So I'm thinking about using Interlux products for painting and sealing the bottom of the hull after glass repairs using roll tip method. I do plan on leaving the sides of the hull yellow, but the cap will be painted white with Interlux to match the bottom ( either Perfection or Brightside ) My supplier says the stuff cures as hard as nails and should have great durability... For my deck I'm really leaning towards light grey Durabak as this is a fishing boat, and I really liked using this product on my old Bayliner deck.

I'd agree. Only do gel if you feel like sanding for the rest of your life.

Re: 1979 Imperial

Unless you have the proper equipment, i.e. Pot Gun with 2.5 or 3.0 mm tip 60 gallon compressor, Long Board sanders LOTS of sanding time. 7" Random Speed Polisher with mulitiple bonnets then, I'd stick with the painting. But like I always say, I AM just an...
