Ive also started making some bench seats. I decided to make them large enough to store 55 qt coolers in them.

I have some hinges that I think will work, but im not sure exactle how i need to attach the top seat/hatch. Also not sure if what i want to cover them with! I will def have cushions on top though!

Well, I just got back to working on my rig. Its looking like im gonna have to pull that 175 and replace my transom. I swear im textbook for how to restore a boat backwards! Oh well, it is what it is. Uhhh transom question, How much epoxy do you guys think it will take to seal the new wood transom? I would hate to not order enough, but I really dont want a bunch of excess sitting around either!
I figured I would get my auraco and epoxy before pulling the motor.

A quart of epoxy should be enough, just mix small batches so it doesn't setup in the cup and waste.

... I thought you replaced that transom?

Looking back I see you didn't replace the transom... oh well, at least you can lift your decking without tearing up your nice vinyl job and ruining your plywood. It'll all come out nice and easy and go back in to look as nice as when you took it out.

Are any of you other tinny owners paying attention to this??? Exposed deck fasteners are worth their weight in gold on tinny restorations!!!

Thanks, Ill get that ordered! I had a bench lid clamped till the glue dried, that might of been why you were thinking i already worked on the transom!

I REALLY feel bad for secrectly laughing at all the guys having to tear out flotation foam on thier restores. (Mine didnt have any) Now that my transom came out in literally wet splinters  Took alot of digging and persistance, but got it all out!

I decided to have a new interior aluminum skin sheared for me. The old one was terrible, tons of extra holes,( a big slice in it from me getting crazy when trying to remove it)etc. It is just bare aluminum, is there anything I should put on it before re-installing?

Update. Took my new aluminum skin, wiped it down with mineral spirits, then a good dousing of vinegar and water, scuffed it up little
IMAG0910_zps0c1a014b.jpg

Then used rustoleum self etching primer on it
IMAG0913_zps1da22f66.jpg

Been filling predrilled holes and coating new transom with epoxy. (in the basement for temperature purposes)

There ias some oxidation on the inside of the alum transom, so im planning on cleaning it up with mineral spirits and a bath of water/vinegar also. Once the exterior is sanded down and wood transom is installed,Ive got ALOT of extra holes to fill in. I was thinking on using jb weld so I can sand it down for painting, unless there is something better I should use?

Nice looking consoles. I like the under foot storage below the console.

Transom is installed, ended up going with several layers of epoxy, all holes were drilled out 2x the necessary size and filled up. before installing it, I went ahead and gave it a final coat or two of some left ovwer dutch boy porch paint. I must have goofed on the thickness of the wood, it seemed super tight and ennded up pounding it down with 2x4 and sledge hammer the last 1/3 of the way! Made the u-shaped transom cap flare a little also:facepalm:
old

sanded down

fresh primer

marine epoxy filled in excess holes
