Its an OUTDRIVE stand. The transom's the part w/ the big gapping hole from whence the outdrive came :watermelon:

Nice stand all the same....... As WOG mentioned before, if the earlier iboats you could see you now: using the lingo, doing the work, getting it done...

Remember the great feeling of conquering the I/O & engine when the glass grinding seems to never end.

Yeah yeah ... literary slip-up in my favor. My brain apparently got confused with what I was building and what I was yet to do.

glass grinding. when you wrap yourself in tyvek suit, put on a respirator, goggles, and ear plugs, and proceed to sweat and itch while using a 24 grit disc to remove old fiberglass.....

good work on the outdrive stand, learning engine removal, etc.

Remember in the way way back:

Instructions on pulling the stringers and floor:

0.) evaluate the list, discuss with your significant other because this is a decent sized project for both labor and time, not to mention a bit of cash.
1.) remove the cap
2.) remove the drive and motor
3.) make a cradle for the hull (I used my bunk trailer and a bunch of 2 x 4's)
4.) wear the right PPE
5) fire up the instruments of destruction and remove the floor (skill saw, sawsall, and multi-tool)
6.) spend many hours swearing alot, sweating alot, spending alot, and asking questions alot
7.) apply gelcoat to the bilge, cooler, and locker areas
8.) put down the carpet
9.) re-install engine and drive. Have drive aligned
10.) re-install cap
11.) re-install wiring
12.) re-install interior and trim
13.) wax and polish
14.) go boating

5.), 6.) and 7.) are the sections that your most interested in as a step by step. however without actually being there to assist, we can only give you guidance. There is a lot of knowledge in the repair section on this wonderful site. I have also been there with the exact same hull. so if needed, PM me and I can send you my cell #

Step 6 is part demo (glass grinding) & part put back (fiberglass & resin work)

That was the WAY back. I never thought that list through LOL. Got to remove cap and went all haywire. Glad to see I've made it to 6. Looks like I'll be there for a minute. Going to get this transom assembly out now.

OK so I have a new problem. One of the exhaust tube bolts that's supposed to be 3/8" is stripped now. The one on the bottom left... Any ideas short of going to a hardware store and getting the actual socket this is supposed to be? I have no idea what type of socket to ask for.

3/8" 12 point socket if its rounded off try beating a 12 point 10mm (whatever fits) socket on with a hammer, lowes sells spline socket set, those fit every thing.View attachment 201337

That is a 12 point bolt vs a 6 point (hex). a standard 12 point socket works.

if its rounded. take a strip of beer can, put over the bolt and place a socket over it, then mash socket into place over aluminum strip and bolt with a hammer. you end up making an aluminum shim in the process. works about 99% of the time.

Thanks guys. I hit it with bolt breaker a few times while trying to get it out when I noticed it was stuck and just didn't work.

Scott. I tried a thin piece of plastic and some cloth that were in reach while I was sitting there but that didn't work of course. I'll try the can. Sounds like that would work a lot better.

If that doesn't do it I'll head to Lowes and get a 12 point. It's completely stripped as in the socket turns on the head and catches just a bit when it turns. The only bolt holding everything back of course.

I think the bolts are a little corroded.

I finally got the last 12 point bolt out of the exhaust tube. Everything off now minus the outside transom assembly. How do I get that off?? It looks as though every bolt holding it on is now off.

Based on the orange carp from before, I bet it is stuck to the transom w/ something similar & swollen wood grabbing what's left of any of the bolt threads

If every bolt is out and there is no orange crap anywhere then I would take a hammer and a small flat bar and I would tap the flat bar in between the transom and the transom assembly. I would do it GENTLY all the way around the assembly enough to loosen it I would not pry any where I would just tap it between to loosen the whole thing. Of course I very well could be wrong as I am an outboard and tin kind of guy.

Got the entire transom assembly off. Transom looks in perfect condition :facepalm: NOT

Proceed with transom removal. I assume the same rules apply here as they did with the decking. Cut all the way around, pull rot out up to the hull and get it cleaned up all nice and ready for the new transom. Glad this gaping hole and bolt holes are back here for a guide on drilling and cutting the new transom when it's time to do that.

I have two 1" sheets of Arauco ply ready.

you need only 2" transom thickness total! 2 ea 3/4" plywood glued together then with the inside glass and outside glass thickness should total up to the two inch thickness.

I'm not cutting the entire back of the boat out right? Just the fiberglass and wood which is inside the boat correct? Leaving myself with some super clean hull to put the new transom back in??? I'm just clarifying this cuz I've seen pictures of people who have cut the entire back of the boat out and that seems very counterproductive.

correct you cut from the inside at the edge skin of the wood then chisel out the wood transom leaving the shell of the boat. friscojarret on here and on YouTube has all the videos on how to do the job. if you are going with epoxy may I suggest looking at this boat rebuild on ideas of waterproofing the transom and all the holes you need to cut thru the wood. I was referencing to the screws in the back of the boat that need to be removed the drain tube and the speed-o tube.
