Great job Hoss, man you are really making a lot of headway on her. You will be done in no time at this rate.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Thanks guys we're making a push to complete this project. I'm starting to think the only hold up might be the engine. The 90hp VRO isn't as squared away as I was led to believe. The tune up / imp. change has led to some other issues with the motor. It'll still eventually be mounted on the rig but not as soon as I hoped. Looking for a temporary solution with at least 75hp. So far junk is all I've found on CL.

Has anyone used the Nautolex adhesive? Not impressed with the cure time and hold so far. At $23 a quart I was expecting some great results. I think I could have done better at Lowes or Menards for much less. Here's the rest of the flooring...have some trimming to do along the transom and bilge well. Planning on finishing it off with SS trim (bilge well).

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Seriously starting to think these rain storms, thunderstorms and tornado warnings are personal affronts for something I must have done. Either that or God's a fiberglass guy. I finished the prep, taped off the topside and got the primer on when the sky got ugly quick. I did clean out the garage though in anticipation for rain. Soon as we got her in all heck broke loose.
I've decided that Rustoleum topside marine paint was the way to go for this project. Not because the Petit has disappointed me because it hasn't. It's because my local West Marine is out of the 3175 white and I'm not waiting for this stuff in the mail. I have some fishing to do! By the way at a third of the price of the Petit it was worth the adjustment. Besides, I've seen most of you do some amazing work with the Rusto. Here she is in primer.

Well, the rain stopped so I'm tempting fate by pushing through with the first coat of white gloss topside paint. Pulled it just out of the garage for better light.... but right where it needs to be to push it back in. I know why you guys like the Rusto. I added some hardener for good measure, didn't feel the need to thin it down..roll/roll application. Covers well, looks pretty good.

Looks great.

I used the Nautolex adhesive and was pleased with it (other than the fact that a gallon wasn't enough )

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Thanks guys, we're trying hard to get this on the water before the snow flies:)

EZ, how long did it take to cure on yours? I used 3 quarts..spread it pretty heavy in fact. I also used a brush for the backside of the flooring. 12 hours later I tried to pull up a corner that will be under the bow area expecting it to have some grab and it came up like I just laid it. I waited until it tacked up and began to turn a bit tan before laying like they said. Am I just rushing the process by thinking it should be dry already??

Don't know, sorry. I didn't mess with it much after it was laid. Seems to be stuck on there pretty well now! I did it when it was much cooler so I'm surprised it's taking long to set up for you.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Thanks EZ, I tried it today and it seems to be holding very well. I guess my impatience got the better of me once again.

Today between the rain and storms I was able to get the second coat on the boat. Actually the wife was able to get the second coat on it. I told you all I'm horrible when it comes to painting. I swear I tried but yesterdays initial coat we did together and there was a distinct difference between her side and mine. I'm teaching her to rebuild carbs and change impellers next so I can just take pictures and post stuff in my thread:)

You're really moving along like a steam roller! Paint is looking great, and I like your plan to train your wife as a mechanic!

I've been fighting rain storms today too.

Thanks Lake,, Heck yeah after they scalp me at the marina for that 90hp she'll probably be willing to learn.

Rg, the wife appreciates the compliment. No problem with the help Buddy...I'd still be tearing my floor out if not for the groups help with mine.

Re: Bighoss' 16ft SS Rebuild

Today we got the third and final coat on the topside..so excited I seriously forgot to take any pictures. We started the prep for the splash well and got it primed. Planning on finishing up all painting in the next two days rain or shine. Re-installing the console and seating by the weekend. They are killing the perch out by the Toledo water intake and just south of West Sister Island....I want to catch at least one fish on this rig before it's too late.

It's back to painting today and getting the console and seating ready to be installed. Man it's nice to be able to do this without having to rush before or after work. Here's the splashwell with the second coat. The third and final coat will get laid tomorrow.

While I'm waiting for some things to dry I was looking back at the pics from the start of the project until now.
