Re: builder bashing

Is not the purpose of forums to be a place to exchange ideas and thoughts, and have those ideas and thoughts expanded and contracted? It's one of the main reasons I return to forums like this one.

In this case, a thread title interests me, because I have bashed on my Glastron's original build, and wanted to read a different perspective. I found some interesting information from the author that makes sense in some respects to me, though I don't agree 100%.

That's the point. Someone noticed something and commented on it using their life experience. This drew in others with other life experiences and relate them to the rest of us getting in here and catching up on the dialogue.

Isn't that awesome? :D Where else can this happen without someone throwing a beer can at ya?!

Its neat to read an opinion people pay good money for,
I like the balsa cored hulls he called "the hamburger helper of boatbuilding."

Like in other situations, follow the money, D/P makes money off selling his services, books and other related items. I'm not saying everything he says is wrong, but if I remember correctly, in the article he admits he's never seen a boat being built, doesn't know the name of the products involved and doesn't know how those products are supposed to be used. When used correctly, most of the things he didn't recognize can work well and the products and methods he liked can also fail when used incorrectly.

I was just about to say the same thing. Nothing like scaring the crap out of your customer base to get them to purchase your services.

I wonder if this thread was started due to the ANTI-STARCRAFT thread? lol

I believe as owner of my boat, I have the right to bash if I want. Does it do any good, no. I like Checkmate so bashing only hurts their name. Their has been some things I've come across that I question but reserve my bashing for Michigan ~ back at you John :D

Someone decided years ago to replace the stringer and deck in my boat and used a 2x6 and T-111 siding without fiberglass and resin. Doing so, they ran screws into the inner fiberglass skin and allowed water to infiltrate the balsa core. I believe I have every right to bring that up and bash the moron responsible so people can relate and/or learn from what I've experienced.

I am not a boating expert but I have been around them all my life. I have learned a TON in here and I simply repay by contributing in other's threads. I will only post if I know something will work or I will only offer my opinion. Most of the time, I give them the options available for their situation and let them do the necessary research to formulate their own conclusion. Sometimes, I simply offer encouragement and congrats on jobs well done as it helps me when I feel stuck or down with my boat. I've had my disagreements with others with the most recent being the properties of epoxy. I say what I think and move on. You're online so don't take things personal. Having an online peeing contest is simply a waste of everyone's time.

When did Ezmobee become a moderator?

Congrats Ezmobee!

It's all part of the Starcraft Club's plan to infiltrate iboats and take it over for ourselves. You, bigred, will NOT be looked upon kindly once the final phases of our plan are completed. The anti-starcraft movement will not be forgotten. HA HA HA HA ha

Re: builder bashing

Some things were never built to last though... Semi rant...

I've got a 1950's Waring Blender that was given to me by my wife's grandparents 20 years ago. That thing can vaporize rocks if I needed to as it was built to last. The glass container must weight 10 pounds and the motor could power a Hyundai

The blender that a friend just picked up for $150 that is all nice and shiney is junk in comparison. I can smell the motor cooking trying to blend 2 cups of ice...

Did I mention I like the old Starcraft's...
