Maybe if you can get an empty, new, metal gallon or quart paint can at the local paint supply house, it might last a lot longer but
I have never had a need to have it sit around any longer than a couple of days before I used it up...I just put it in a chinese soup tupperware, quart size...;)

I too used about 2 quarts of pb on my transom. I used 10mm as well with a 950mm container. When you clamp down it should ooze out around the edges. Then you can spread it in the edges. I had to up my hardner to 15mm for the rest of the build. This worked good for me and gave me about 20 minutes of working time. I'm not sure why the 10mm took so long to harden. Maybe the higher humidity here. The air temp was in the high 70s and low 80s but the humidity was up around the 70 to 80 percent range. ..

If your temps are in the low 70's and high 60's and you're in the shade... I'd mix @ 1.5% You'll have plenty of time especially if you dump it out of the container as soon as it's mixed and start spreading it so the heat doesn't have time to build up. I'd pre-mix 3 qts If you have left over you can put it in a plastic zip lock, squeeze out the air and stick it in the fridge. It'll keep a long time. If you feel confident after the dry run you should be able to dump the resin spread it and get the transom in place and clamped in 15 mins with your son helping. I bet you'll get it done in 10!!!!;)

If it's in a ziploc or double ziploc there shouldn't be any smell.:D

SP don't get all out of shape here.. Just mix it up like all the others ^^^ have said and go for it..
I used about 2 quarts and did it by myself on my deck boat without any trouble..
Have a spoon ready to do the fillets. If you don't have enought squeeze out to finnish the fillets then have the
zip lock bag handy and put any remaining PB in it and cut off the corner tip and squeeze it around the transom..
It's not as hard to do as it sounds..:D

Ok should I or would it be a good idea to put a fresh layer of csm on he inside skin before transom installation ? Or is just a good grind/clean of the old skin be good enough ?

It sure seems like the factory layed the stringers flat on the hull . I would have to grid to china to get all the little tidbits of wood out .

If the wood is not rotten could I leave a little and ab over it when I fillet the new ones in ?
And whats the weapon of choice for removing the wood out of the keel stringer . It's stuck in there really well .

I used a 7" grinder with a 24 grit disc to take out all of the wood and old glass..
Looks like you have alot of woven roven that needs to be taken out..

I would not leave any of the old wood..:peace:

Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

As long as the inner skin of the transom is fairly level, in other words, no major dips or bumps/lumps...PB and the new transom wood is fine...if there are issues, the PB should be enough to take care them...
As for removing the bits of old wood, I have to agree with Decker..I know its a PITA, but to do all this work and have these few scraps be the cause of some future rot would suck...
There really is no best tool to get them out but a carbide bit on a rotary tool or even better, if available on an air powered die grinder...
Maybe an oscillating tool with something like a grout removal bit...?
Good old wood chisel and a hammer...
Possibly an air chisel with a gouging bit...
Small sanding/grinding disc on a drill motor or die grinder...
Sorry, brother...I can think of a dozen other ways, but none seem easy or fast...:blue:
It is times like this you wish there existed a wood removal chemical like paint stripper...
You could release a colony of carpenter ants in there, but that might take too long...

Grind and go. No CSM required. The PB will take care of everything except major gouges and you could prefill them prior to installation so no worries. On the keel wood, I'd use a Router with 1/2" straight bit. Multiple passes going 1/4" deeper on each pass.

So far I have tried all of those . Gunna pick up a 1/2 and a 1/4" chisel and give that a go . For some reason I have lost all smaller chisel's I had ..

Ahhh ,a router and straight bit , that's one I didn't think of . Might be hard to use up in the V part of the bow . Maybe I can find a good size wood straight bit for our drywall routers we use at work . Like a Roto-Zip ...

Hey guys, ondarvr says that if you store your resin/PB in a sealed Metal Can NO ODOR!!!! You can get empty Gallon Paint cans @ Lowe's pretty cheap. Put the PB in a ziploc then put it in a Gallon paint can and hammer it shut. DONE!!!! No Stinky!!!

Re: Glassmaster SIL project .

That would be a good idea if you wanted to split up a 5 gal pail into more manageable quantity . Unless ya got one of those fancy 5 gal poly bucket dispensers like Decker ..

Well we could not wait any longer . We got home from work and went at it . No rehearsal because Chis was pressed for time . He and my daughter had reservations for diner .. Only a 1 alarm Chinese fire drill ..

I think we used about 8 or 9 500 ml batches of pb .I lost count .
All in all I think it went pretty smooth .. :joyous:
