Re: hull extension in progress with picks

It was a tragic accident on Lake Texoma that killed five people. I heard the boats have just been released by the courts.

If you are interested here are some pre-crash picts. It ran around 165MPH with the turbins before the tragic event. I am not sure this person really haves the boat or the motors. It just may be some sicko.

I don't really think you want these motors.

The Before pics seem to be two different boats?

If they were turbines, you don't want 'em period. Other than the fact you couldn't build them into a boat not designed for them, they're probably toast even if intact after a crash like that, and would need a rebuild.

I'd suggest just getting a base motor or core for rebuild, and run it through a performance shop to get it stroked.

Actually, I'd think the ideal would be a stock 454 gen V or better.

it looks like she sunk.....that means the other turbine is toast....but the arneson surface drive should be good.

i was thinking stock 454....but the 383s are better on gas and can get the hp and spin speed with the relyability factor i need

but....if a bbc happens to come around........there is one in vanc....a really good pckge....(volvo drive) that im trying to track down...

as well as the strokers that have been listed here

granted, that boat sunk, but the transom picture makes me wonder if there hadn't been a breach in that insomuchas water intrusion/rot. What a bummer though. I guess that's the risk that comes with any racing though. You can't account for everything.

Who knows when the "after" pics were taken. The Elements prolly had there way with the wood for some time before those shots showed up on the net. That Boat had a young married couple on it that paid for a ride on the boat and got killed leaving young children behind. Very sad story.

so.......

im sitting here at the store.......waiting for the mech to call and tell me when the boat is ready........its been two days to cut out the t plate.....(the t plate is the hole thru the transom where the motor connects to the drive. it must be correctly cut, if its out an inch.....thats a ton of top speed)

i must admit....im goin crazy waiting......i have soo much to do in the next few days before the motor install.......

im poised and waiting to pounce on the boat.....but no boat ! :(

Patience is a virtue Ward :D I've been waiting for a couple of months to get my projection screen back from my TV guy from a warranty repair ( his repair, being repaired by him under his warranty ). I finally stopped by his shop and inquired about it and he told me he'd have it to me next week. He was swamped with work and I got put on the back burner....I did tell him to take his time with it as I didn't need the TV back anytime soon...however, 2-3 months is a bit of a stretch....especially when the first repair took him 3 days for a turnaround.

Better to let the guy get to it when he has got all his wits and head clear, than for him to knock it out to keep that pesty cannuck off his back :p

Maybe you should loosen him up a bit with a dark blue and yellow package :D

thank you, that means ive been getting a lot of help. i could not have gotten this far with out your guys help and support.

ok.....the update !!!!!!

2pm yesterday....i call him....talk to his wife....she runs the office....she tells me its getting done.......(i need to make arrangements to pick up the boat....its 30 mins away....and they close before i do)

410 pm.....(he closes at five).....i call.....no answer (there is three staff there
they all just stand by the counters and answer the phones.

4 :30

i finally get a hold of him......he says he hasnt got it done yet because he does not know what motor/drive package is going in there.....
..... i say....WHAT???.....(he is storing the 4.3 and the alpha for me.....and i told him to cut the 4.3 because it needed to get installed in 2 weeks or less)

then he tells me.....that the placement is all different......there is a big difference between a volvo and a merc.....between a alpha and a bravo....and he didnt know what one to cut........

i say WHAT?????.....i calmly told him he was to cut it for the 4.3 and the alpha.......he says.....but you are going to change the motor in there....i say yeah.....he says he needs to know what motor and drive before he can cut it....i say i dont know....but the 4.3 alpha is going in there ...cut that pattern.

he says he cant....i say in all likely hood a 383 is going in there....so thats a 350 block....so its the same as the 4.3.....he says no its not.....

......i say WHAT????????????

(a 4.3 is identical to a 350 its just like someone took a giant saw and cut off the fromt two cylinders)

i tell him hang on....ill have the answer for him in 15 mins.....(before i tell the mech he's full of poop....i need to re check my facts.....

so i asked here

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=283247

within 5 minits don and bondo had the answer for me.....

i drove down and got my boat back......
when got there....he had the boat at a fiberglass shop....i think he was trying to farm it out....

soooo.... my boat is now back at its home bay.....at rent a boat....they are still letting me stay there.....

glad to see my baby back at home......i took the cap off her again....i did it my self....just slid it back....and started to install the backing strips for the rub rail.....i have some pics but the camera batts died so i only have a few.....ill have a full update in about 2 hours

Read this and Don and Bond-O. Sounds like you made the right decision. If he's not sure what the heck he's doing, best back in the hands of the person who cares most about it being done right.

Sounds like a trip to Campion might be a good thing to do. They will have a copy of every template for every drive you might end up using. You could compare the templates and then determine what you can use and what won't work. Once you have the X factor and a centerline square to the planing surface it should be a snap to cut the hole.
