Sometimes I feel as if I'm posting questions and eventually figuring out my own problems. The two lines on the flywheel which I asked about earlier have been resolved. One points to the TDC on the scale and the other points to the arrow on the pulley. <br />Took the the throttle cable off the engine and hooked up the timing light.<br />I'll play with it till the water freezes over.<br />Thanks

If you have more than a 15 PSI. between cylinders this is a problem for you because having that much difference between cylinders will make the outboard to run poorly.

It's running reasonably well with 5100 RPM's at max throttle.(in neutral)<br /><br />Thanks<br /><br />Alex

Full throttle RPM for your outboard is between 5200 to 5600 RPM at WOT at 35 degrees BTDC

Thank you Peet for your input. Tim Mathis has a procedure that does the timing while the cranking is in effect. You do not have to be in gear to do it.<br />All the best to you.<br /><br />Alex

Alex you will never get more solid info than I gave you on a linc & synk by Clams Canino all he does is mercury inlines(not all but most) He does more mercury inlines than anybody in the U.S. and Canada.<br /> I don't care what this Peet guy said, also I can't believe that he comes on iboats and would recommend any other forum, iboats is the best of the best when it comes to a boating forum.( He is recommending a forum with two experts ??? over iboats with 20 or more???) something is wrong with this picture. <br />Alex if you have any questions or need help with your timing feel free to ask or even email. Alex, Be careful you should not run it at high RPM'S without a load on it, Very dangerous a No No. Have you ran a compression check after the decarb? Tim

5100 RPM's in neutral??!!! Unuhhhh dont do dat!!<br />Never let it rev over 2000 rpms without a load on it. Way too much strain on the system.

Alex, I'm sorry that it takes a while between posts here lately I have Bought two other houses one in Myrtle Beach S.C. the other in Clearwater Fla. So we have been busy if you know what I mean.<br />You said that after your decarb that you broke the rings loose. I hope that this brings your compression up to par. If not you may be in need of a powerhead rebuild or at the least a hone and ring job. Tim

Thanks for all the info guys. I went to the lake and played with the "engine". <br />Progress is being made, I can now start the engine and after a warmup period lower the warm-up lever without conking out the engine.<br />I hooked up the timer and in forward gear, tied to the dock, I got a reading of 8-9 deg BTDC running at 800 RPM's. It coughed or sneezed a couple of times before conking out when I gave it more gas. <br />What does that mean?<br />The runs at high RPM's were short in duration.<br />No, I haven't rechecked the compression.<br />Thanks<br /><br />Alex

Do you have a manual? If not this may help.<br />Timing not right.<br /> Set at 34 max advance.<br /> Just find a shade spot (under bridge or trees) when at lake.<br /> Pull fuel line from tank let it run out of fuel. Take 7/16 wrench pull throtle arm off at powerhead(where you can advance timeing to max with your hand.)<br /> Put timing light on #1 have somebody crank over motor.<br /> Turn timing screw until 34 max advance at timing mark.<br /> Put throttle arm and fuel line back on start it and recheck.<br /> you are done. Alex if you want expert advice stick with iboats. <br />Clams, Laddies, myoutboards and the list goes on and on are real experts. Just post a new question and ask anyone of them for their help and you will get expert help! The advice that I gave you is what has worked for me and that is what iboats is all about. Tim
