LOL you sure you want one ??

Well except sitting at the emergency room for 2 and a half hours with Jeremy, Just to have them tell me what I told him 4 hours ago !!!!!!!! LOL and just wait theres more !!!He's all right just pleurisy

Nope not really , lol spent about 7 out of the 8 and a half on just the transom !!!! out of 11

I got to go back and see who told me about a good primer , !! I am going to have to primer her frist , I was out there and got to thinking there are to many spot that I can almost see the fiberglass on top and I dont want to take any chances!!!Plus On the top of the transom I really got it flat there , I ran my hand on the edge and allmost cut it !! rounded it right after that !! Got a good hour on my flat board , think its 17 inchs , Steve remember on the starboad side how there was some waves on that side ??? well there not there now !!! :] Hit it with the boand petty hard

So in the splash well I have to it the bottom where i cant hit with the flat board !! I took a few pics after i got started this morning . I will take some now, and post them later !!!

While I was doing the bottom part of the transom I got some of the bottom of the hull !!

So the Transom IS Done, going to start working my way forward!!! I was out there this morning telling my self , dont hurry , take my time , its really getting there !!!

Ok more later , John

John,
Looks amazing ma!!! about the date for paint, have you ever thought of setting one and saying, by this day i will be done for paint? this way you have something to work for, and your not dragging the project along. It will also limit yourself as well, we both know how these projects can grow and if you set a date that everything has to be done, you wont be so picky that you lose sight of the point of the project TO HAVE HER IN THE WATER!!! lol hey man keep it up im likin it, P.S i pulled the scarab out of the garage today and MAN i have some good photos, but even more amazing VIDEO of it!!! your gonna love it i will post it tomorrow. Take care man

Yep , Thats kind of what i have been doing , but its really taken longer to do then what I allot for time , I'm not going to make her perfect , but I just want all the nicks and scratches out of her !!Some once told me that if you can see it now it will show up 10 worse when you paint, so I'm just trying to get her where she wont show her age !!! LOL Its not that I'm given up on getting her done, remember I said May 13 as the date , I gave my self a extra couple weeks just cause I know how its been going !! I want to give her a month to cure , but if it gets warmer out , 3 weeks is all that rustolem say it need to cure !!!

So thanks John , I am going to start hitting it after work when I don't have to work late , and she is really getting close , like i said I am working my way forward , and the rest isn't that much to sand !!!! John

Re: pic of work so far

Hi all

Well I got out there for 2 hours tonight and I started the stern starboard side , Just the top, and worked up to the butt crack , all hand sanding !!!!

I not going to be happy unless I hand sand all the contours, all the round edges, so in two hours I got that far , so what 8 more hours of just hand sanding !!!!!! OOOHHHH MAN what fun !!! lol

I should be able to get a good 4 hours tomorrow on her !!!!!!! If my hands hold out !!! lol John

The hand sanding of the contours is the one thing I look forward to the least...but at least I hand sand every day for a living, so it won't kill me to to do it...but these glastrons are curvy beasts!

Would those sanding "sponges" make a difference? They probably would contour to the curved surface better than even wet/dry paper.

Just don't over do it. I ended up with Tendonitis once, it took about 8 months before I was healed up to the point that working with my hands didn't cause a lot of pain in my forearms. Would hate to see these projects postponed due to injury!!!

I hear ya. I've got problems in my right hand that I really should go see the doc about ( the term "repetitive stress" comes to mind ).

OHH Yea hear yea guys , Hold a knife 8 to 12 even 14 hours a day !!!!! my hands are my life !!! my hands aren't to bad its more my shoulder that buggies me , I popped a tendon in it and if I just move it right it hurts !!!

I got a little sponge, what 2 1/2 x 3 , It works petty well , but it still can leave flat spots , when I am rounding over the edges !! I found my hands work the best there !!! On the frist lip over the side , it works great in there , it get just the right radius in there !! I did have the numatic sandier going for a bit to tonight !! I went and got 15 more disks for it today !! found a ace hardware that had the 220 grit , right across from work !!!!

Well except for the splash well and where the seat sits in the bow the straboard side is done !!!!!! All the way to the bottom !!! yeeaaaa !!!! OHH and most of the Bow is done , well just where i could reach standing out side of the boat !!!

Where I hit the starboard side with the long board , it really did get most of the waves out of her !! I could see a few small ones in there but there not bad at all , a little more long boarding on it and I hope they will be gone !!

Ok well I am going to hit it tomorrow after work and all day tue, [ Only got one day off this week ] So i really do think she should be ready to paint , except for the cleaning before painting !!!! John

Re: pic of work so far

Hi all

Well didn't get all the time i wanted to today !! Mom and dad just left here , they just drove from New port Richey, Florida, Sunday morning and made it here just after 8;00, when they called me today at 2;00 they were in Kentucky Lexington , and they made it here in 6 hours . SOME one was speeding !!!! hahaha

So I didn't get out of work till 4;30 today , and chappins closes at 5 , I couldn't make it out there in time to pick up your TeX Steve , If your going to be up this way tomorrow , I will run and get it in the morning ....

I did get about a hour and a half on her today ,a lot of hand sanding and long boarding it !!! man she is going to be petty !! the starboard side is really turning out sweet !! when you get going with the long board you can cover a lot of ground with it !! you really got to watch the shadows , but if you get in the zone with it you can just watch the shadows just disappear!!!

OK I am hoping tomorrow she should be just about done !!! OHHH MY GOD ,, Did i really just say that !!!!There still a lot of sanding in the splash well , but the port side isn't as bad as the starboard side was with the butt crack and all . On the bottom of the hull the 3 foot section of the keel is the worst !!! I am going to put a keel guard on after the paint. Got to check here on I boats how much they are !!!

Ok more tomorrow John

Budget about $150 for the keel guard. It should be less than that total, but not too far off. I'm going to get one for my boat also. I nose my boats into the beach often enough to warrant the expense.

It rained all day here, so spent the majority of it taking care of odds and ends, and then the evening playing "rockband" with my best friend and my brother who both drove up for a visit and a bbq. Time well spent.

One tool I think I might go about procuring though is a "fein" saw. It'd be nice to use to finish the detailed tear out work to keep the glass fibers down instead of ripping it apart with a sawzall.

Hay Mike . just looked and 112.59 for a 4 inch keel guard , It didn't say how long it was thoe !! 4 inch is all i need , all that was rubbed off was on the very tip of the keel , maybe a inch across !! I would like to run it from my tow bolt in the front to about 4 feet down !!

Ohh man cool on the BBQ , its always good to get together!! thats one game of the kids I haven't tried yet !!

On the saw Fein is a brand name isn't it ??

I tell you what , the cut off wheel that i used made quick work of it !!! I also had that diamond bit for my dermal that i used a lot !!!

Re: pic of work so far

Hay all

Tell me if i am wrong here , please tell me I am wrong !!! But seeing that I am doing 2 colors I am going to have to tape up where I want to do the red!! I am thinking I want to start with the red.

Am I going to have to wait 3 weeks for the red to fully cure before I peal the tape ??? Or do you think like after a week of it baking with the lamps on her , Will I be able to peal the tape and then re tape her for the White !!!! What do you think Steve, Mike ,Ward,Jody ???????? TD please chime in your the one that has worked with the rustoleum !!!!
Please tell me its not going to have to wait 6 weeks ???

OK I got from the transom to the helm on the bottom !! there are still 3 spots that I need to clean up and there done !! the two side corners in the splash well, the last 2 feet going to the bow on the port side !! the rest of the bottom!!!

My hands are still tingling , My arms and shoulders are felling it , I would go with the hand sanding till I couldn't hold it any more then wen with the flat board , and then the nematic !!!! OOOhhh also have to move the jacks and do there !!!Kind of wish I turned down the overtime tomorrow !! She would have been done !!!

Ok guys PLEASE TELL ME I AM WRONG !!!! PLEASE !! lol John
