Re: St. Augustine in May/June: UPDATED: Now With Dates!

It will be a nice break from the everyday chore of work/home/work/home.

Spending the extra time there will be nice. We're arriving Friday afternoon and leaving Monday morning. Like I had mentioned, feel free to tag along on the ride from Jax to St. Augustine if you can swing it. Prior to us actually leaving in June, I'll PM everyone involved my phone number so that we can get in touch as people arrive. That way, if you can make the Jax-south run, you can reach me on the water.

As soon as my three year old saw it, "I go boat" was his instant reaction. I'm quite sure that other than Mommy, the boat is absolutely his favorite thing in the world. Not really 100% sure where I fit in there.

You are the captain of the boat so you fit in the top, now what is first, you, boat or mommy. :D You are in the top three. :D

I will be there, as I have said before not sure about the boat yet. Got a lot going on and having to spend more money than I want to right now so funds are a little short. My wife and I will be there. :D

Friday afternoon sounds perfect. I've been thinking on terms of getting to the marina Friday morning. Does the marina have a ramp? I called earlier this evening and no one answered; I left a message for them to call me about extending my stay, as well as to see whether or not they had a ramp.

I want to take the boat north from the marina to meet you in Jax to cruise back to Old Town with you, as you'd mentioned. This whole adventure is really beginning to seem close, now. It no longer feels like a far off, out of reach, unobtainable fantasy.:)

Your last post was 1,911... Never miss a 911. Attracts my eyes like a magnet.

Nlain,

You posted while I was composing my post. When I finished typing, I just hit post, logged off, and had to run (I'm at work). Now I get back, and see that you posted. You posted at 9:11pm. Reminders everywhere...

On a lighter note, I'm just really glad you'll be able to make it. Boat or no boat. I've been looking forward to meeting you since last year, when we "spoke" about the river trip down to the gulf. Maybe we'll be able to make that voyage happen later in the season.:)

I spoke to my sister and it looks like she and her husband may not make it to St. Augustine. They are in demand at this time, which is good for them. They haul secret goverment stuff......and pharmaceuticals.

The bossman is down for a few days and he appears to just want to hang out on his boat. This is good as I have been putting in so many hours that I can barely walk and talk. I think I'll spend some time on Baccala, the old Penn Yan. The lady wants her restored, but I don't see the point in doing so. I guess I'm like the auto mechanic who drives a raty car.

It was a pleasure speaking to you last night, veritas honus. You guys take care!

If your sister and BIL can't make it, we'll just have to have an extra good time for them, and have at least one "toast" in their honor.:)

The "Bossman" is down and appears to just want to hang out on his boat???... Are you kidding??? A boat like that, with someone who puts his heart and soul, blood, sweat, and tears into it... and all he wants to do is "hang out on it"??? Sounds like a really down to earth, respectable human being. From what I believe I know of you, the distinct impressions I've gotten from our interactions on this forum, and telephone conversations... it's apparrent that he has found the perfect person to Captain/keep his boat, and you've found the perfect person to Captain and "Boatkeep" for. May the relationship between the two of you get only better and better.

Sounds to me like Kimi really loves the Penn Yan. Just can't picture you as the type to have a pretencious, shallow mate, who needs to be on a "star spangled" pedestal at all times. If she really wants it, you'll see that; and that'll be all the reason you'll need. You and her will find/make the time to restore her. That being said, some of the time we spend together in September can very well be some "theraputic fun" on the Penn Yan.

It was a pleasure speaking with you, too!!! Looking forward to our next conversation. I'm really looking forward to conversations with you and Kimi and all of our "St Augustine Get Together Group":D

First of all, congratulations, Commander!!! I just realized you've posted more than two thousand times.

I know it was Fireman you asked, but I'll throw in my .02... Bring the sentiment, the thought, and the lighthearted state of mind that sign encourages... But leave the wood, paint, and rope for your neighbors to enjoy!!!

Yes, veritas honus, Kimi loves her first boat. If she wasn't to wide to legally tow, I would be bringing her to St. Augustine and use her as a boatel. She sits at the marina now and gets used often.

The boss wants to spend a week in the keys later this month and have me bring her to SC for a couple months this summer. We were going to coincide our trip to SC to be at the roundup in June, but we have some business to attend to after the meet and are planning on making it into a couple week vacation. Trip to SC is scheduled for the first of July and bring her back the first of October. Bossman and I scheduled a trip on Baccala for Saturday. I'm taking him for a cruise thru some out of the way places his big boat will never see.

Talk to you soon.

PS: The only reason I'm a commander is because of my motor mouth. I didn't earn it.....I took it! :D

Why not float da boat???... Oh, You got buisiness and vacation up north...:p;)

Sasto, Your "Boss" and you, it seems, are very fortunate to have found one another. Are you going to be in SC until October?... Or are you just bringing the boat there and then going home?

I am going to try to keep with the trip to SC, should you pass thru Ga on a weekend and depending on conditions I could be in St Cathrines Sound when you pass thru. We will have to see what happens. Should I be there i would probably be on the beach on the South end of Ossabaw Island.

I don't think the marina itself has a ramp, at least not one I can remember off hand. However, the original St. Augustine marina (on the other side of the bridge) has a ramp. And I'm sure with the inlet being right there, there has to be more ramps around and within walking distance of the Municipal Marina. Try calling them again. They obviously would have the best information.

Meeting up in Jax would be great. That way, you're not waiting for us or us for you. You can keep heading inland as we're heading outbound and we're bound to crash (figure of speech...hopefully) into one another. Get a chart of the area where the ICW enters into the St. Johns river. It's not a very well marked crossover. The water can get a bit turbulent there (mostly 'swirly'), but you should have any issue at all.
You can ride alongside us, or we'll tie you off as a tender and ride with us. Until we've gotten on your last nerve, then you'll be swimming back to your boat to ry to get some peace!!

If you bring that sign, you're going home without it!! How about if I just print it and tape it up somewhere? Oh, and don't think I've forgotten about the St. Augustine Marina welcome mat! That better be there, too! It looks just like the one my brother stole from them!

They havn't gotten back to me, and I forgot to call them again. Thanks for reminding me.

I do indeed want to take the boat up to Jax from the marina. It'll be a good familiarization drill with our "temporary local waters".;) Thanks for the info regarding the "turbulant" water at the St Johns estuary. Not a problem. I'll certainly have charts with me; as well as a compass.:) Now, if only I could get those darn turn signals to work on my boat, I'd feel a whole lot better about pulling out of the channel to buy some prop wash!!!:p:D

Your message to sasto... Brilliant!!!

PS: As far as you getting on my last nerve, if that's even possible, I will ABSOLUTEly figure out some way to deal with it...

I'm figureing on spending some time in SC, but not the whole time. The bossman (captains terms for the owner, and I always call him sir around the docks) dosen't do as much boating there as he likes to do here. Mostely for huricane protection at his guarded marina. This one here is in the ICW and very vonerable to storm damage.

See you in St. Augustine!

Jekyll Island is our prefered stop in GA, but you just never know when making a long trip. We can exchange #'s in St. Augustine and see what happens, nlain. If only I get to toot the horn at ya'. I'm not familuar with St. Catherines sound but will be studying charts soon.

Nothing is written in stone at this time, I have a place I can take his boat if a hurricane is approaching.

See ya' in St. Augustine, buddy!

PS: How do you multi-quote?

Point made, Fireman....make a copy. I can't picture my boss stealing that mat from the marina but maybe another captain did. I think I better leave it at home.

St Catherines Sound is just where we go to the beach, usually on the South end of Ossabaw Is, according to Google Earth you will find it at 31?42'41.53"N 81?09'29.27W, that is approx the middle.

Sunbury Crab Co, (restuarant) and the Shrimp Boats Marina Resort is up the Medway River at Sunbury, that is 31?46'11.61"N 81?16'38.85"W per Google Earth

Now to multiquote there is a button to the right of Reply with Quote, click that button and it puts a check mark on each message you want to quote, then click the Reply to Thread button and all the messages will be in the window so you can reply to each.

As far as the ramps in St. Augustine, try this:

http://tinyurl.com/3jk6ppo

You should really have no problems. Take a few good looks close up at Google Earth and you'll see exactly what I mean. It's amazing to me how a connection point like the St. Johns River and the ICW are so unmarked and actually quite narrow. Going from the ICW into SJR is pretty straightforward, but you'll pass it up going the other way if you don't know where to look.

As far as you getting on my last nerve, if that's even possible, I will ABSOLUTEly figure out some way to deal with it...

I like the way you think....:D

I'm sure he didn't steal it. At one point (years ago) I heard that they used to give them away. Kind of a giant rubber business card. I would assume over the years that fiscal matters took priority and they had to quit doing that.

Could be wrong, but I think you need to hit "Reply with quote" after checking all the "multi-quotes" you want to include.

Reply to thread works, I tried it, I never had done a multi quote so I had to learn how.

Where is June.
