    ghost in the machine ?

OK, you connected the multimeter on amps sale between the negative battery post and cable After reading your meter manual, think there is an issue with the setup. You have the red lead in the 20amp DC section but the dial is in the mA section. Do the test again in the 20 section, and if it...

Mercruiser 165 outdrive, can i add a trim gauge?

The manual shows two types of gauge senders and does show the current type. If your gimbal pins have the allen socket fitting so the sender can be inserted, you would just need to drill the 2 holes, run the wire, and install the gauge Otherwise tpenfield just got a patent on a powered new design

    1996 Mercruiser 4.3 LX+ Runs rough after 1800 RPM

Since your getting spark even though not at high rpm's it probably wouldn't do any good to run through the test flow, but this is the only way to check why it wouldn't spark

    Trim problem

Thanks, being a 1994 it should be a Alpha 1 Gen 2. Here is a link to the entire drive http://www.mercruiserparts.com/alpha-one-gen-ii-1991-1995-0d469859 The trim cylinder rod end cap is on the end and then a anode can be attach to it. If the anode is loose, this is not much of an issue...
