Bow of Aluminum Starcraft hopping at WOT.

Okay guys, I have been talking to a few guys about props for my setup. 1986 16' Starcraft Fishmaster Aluminum (Dry Weight 610lbs.) and 1967 Mercury 650 65hp motor. Current prop is 17P aluminum. I think the diameter is around 11", which seems small to me. Rake is probably 0 degrees. It is...

Need advice to see if prop shaft is bent. Mercury 650

1969 Mercury 650, runs great, moves quickly. I had what seemed to be an unusual amount of vibration on the boat in gear at lower RPMs. Check out the videos guys, they speak for themselves.

Mercury starter didn't want to engage.

Fellas, most of you have probably heard this question a million and one times. I was out on the water the other day, and everything was working fine for once:redface: So, went to crank the motor over about 5 or 6 miles from the dock, and starter just spun and did not engage. I changed over to a...

1977 Merc 4.5 carb removal. Do I need to remove the powerhead?

Okay guys I have a carb issue with the merc 4.5hp. The carb doesnt seem to have enough clearance past the studs to come out. I also see that the choke lever is plastic, and I think if I can remove it I will be able to get the carb out, but I am afraid to break it. Does it come out any special...

    1996 Evinrude 28hp Misfire

Okay fellas, I went out on the water with my good friend the other day, and his motor was misfiring badly. It did it quite often at idle, but it was more harsh under a bit of throttle. At full throttle it was barely detectable.I printed the CDI manual, and it says to use a DVA tester to check...

Can I run 25:1 oil mix when it calls for 50:1?

Hey guys I have a big ol' 10 gallon tank that I use for my Merc 650 (50:1), and a 3 gallon reserve tank. The 3 gallon tank is mixed 25:1 for my kicker. If I use the reserve tank (25:1) for a motor that calls for 50:1 will it cause any misfires or idling issues?

Small 70's Mercury keeps cutting off.

Just wondering if any of you have had any experience with the following issue on one of the 70's series Mercuries (or any motor for that matter). I have a '70's 45 (4.5hp) and just got the waterpump in yesterday. Went to start her up today, (first time since I've owned it) and she started right...

    1977 Merc Lower unit install

Sup guys, I just got an impeller in and was trying to install my L/U on a 4.5hp 1 cylinder 1977 Merc. Now, there is a water input line, shift shaft, drive shaft, and two studs that have to slide in. My question is this, do the driveshaft AND shift shaft enter the splines at the same time, or...

    Anyone use Easy Steer system

I have 'crafted' my own easy steer setup, but it does not function as well as I had hoped. I'd love to steer my kicker with my main steering wheel. I was wondering if anyone has the E.Z. steer system and if they have any idea on what the price is on one of their setups. Thanks!

Mercury 650 carbs rebuilt but still leak. Is this normal?

So I rebuilt both the carbs on my '67 4 cylinder 650 and they are both leaking. Is it normal? I know there is a tray to catch the fuel when you tilt the motor up, but right after I prime the motor it starts leaking. I changed all the gaskets that came in the carb kit. In the photo here you can...

    1977 Merc 4.5hp longshaft

Hey fellas, got a hold of a greattttt running 4.5hp for $50 yesterday. It needs a waterpump, but I can't get the durn lower unit off. All that I could see was a 1/2" nut in the front right above the prop, and another 1/2" nut in the back of the lower unit. Loosened those suckers up and the L/U...

How to install a spark plug boot on merc?

Okay guys, I cant seem to find anywhere how to attach the spring end to the spark plug wire, and how to get the boot over it. Do you just wrap the wire around the arm of the spring, solder it, lube up the boot, and slide it on?

    Saw a 1976 Mercury 4.5hp for $50

What do you guys think? I was thinking of checking it out today, he only wants $50. Original owner, and has original manual. Was a sailboat back-up with hardly any corrosion. I'm going to check compression. He says it ran when he checked it a few days back, but just wasn't flowing water. Any of...

    Merc 650 4 cylinder Ignition

Hey fellas. I am currently doing a fuel/spark/air overhaul on my 65hp. It is a 1967 4 cylinder. When I checked the spark plug wires for continuity, they are intermittent (when I move the wires around). I suspect either a loose plug boot or wire lead. I have seen kits online where you can make...

    Coolant passage issues.

Okay guys as some of you know I have been working with a Johnson 4hp 4R70E from 1970. Both of the motors that I have to work with have run hot. Luckily the cylinders are in great working order, even though it is apparent that these motors seem to have issues cooling the bottom cylinder. Here's...

Guys, I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS! Any ideas?

Started the morning off replacing my freshly built carbs/fuel pumps on my Merc and stripped out the carb housing. Anyway, I just bought a 4hp 1969 Evinrude and it runs great. Only issue is that the lower cylinder was getting hot. Being a saltwater motor, I knew that the water passages were...
