    New(used ) 115 powerhead

Have a blown 1996 88 special. Have access to a 1992 complete 115, ignition, and carbs all intact. Can I mount this powerhead on my 1996 midsection? I thnik I can but have seen many posts about filler blocks and plates that might not match up with out some machining. Any thoughts?

    1996 -1997 125 Johnson, crossflow,looper, or other?

Going to look at a used Johnson 125. Owner thinks its a 1997, I will get numbers of it to confirm. Question is, is that a crossflow, looper, or possibly an Ocean Runner? Once I see it i think I can tell which it is, just curious. I'll post the numbers after I go see it.

    intake ports on 1996 crossflow

Have a 1985 crossflow block I'am using for a rebuild of a 1996 88 special. Did the 85 have smaller intake ports? On the block I have they are definitely smaller then the 1996 88 block. With the smaller ports should I double check my carbs and make sure I'am not running 1 5/16 carbs(I think...

1996 Cross Flow intake manifold on a 1985 Crossflow block

Ok, I'll rephrase my question. Will a 1996 Crossflow intake with 4 nipples for bypass hoses work on a 1985 crossflow block? Dont know how the bypass hoses would go? Have the bypass covers from 96 block which have all but one of the nipple(one is in the 96 block,85 block has no nipples for...

    1985 bypass diagram

So going to rebuild the 1996 88 special and have gotten a hold of a good 1985 cross flow block. (my 1996 block had a small break at the exhaust so had to scrap it, still have it). My question is my 1996 bypass covers have the nipple for the bypass hoses but the 85 block covers dont. Plus...

    88 special to a 140?

Ok, so I'am doing a full rebuild on my 88. While removing the powerhead the crankcase near the exhaust cracked and is non repairable. I purchased a good used 140 crossflow block to start the rebuild. What can I do to make this motor a true 140? My carbs are 1 5/16 stamped and I dont yet...

    Johnson 88 to a 115

My 88 special lost two rings(think I found out why) and in my search for a new block(broke a small part when removing powerhead) I found a 115 block with a bubble back exhaust. When I rebuild will this result in a 115 hp motor or do I need to upgrade my carbs to achieve 115 hp.

Oh Oh, this might be bad

Dont know if this is bad but motor is a 1996 88 special. Good compression in this cylinder(121) but was checking for a possible problem in lower starboard hole and found this on piston of upper star. piston. Looks like the leading edge of the piston caught on something and put two little bumps...

Three cylinders running slightly rich one lean?

1996 Johnson 88 special . Lower starboard cylinder spark plug shows light tan to black crusty deposits on the electrode. the other three are clean with maybe a little more oil residue then normal, but they might just be about perfect. I was told by a mechanic that cylinder on the crossflow...

One plug has small black deposits

1996 John 88 special. Boat runs great, just checked the plugs lower starboard one has small black crusty deposits on it. Electrode is not worn down, plugs only have around 15 hours on them. I'll try to post pics. Other three plugs are all clean with slight oil residue on them but no deposits.

Johnson 88, one spark plug different

last year had a problem with starboard lower plug having salt like deposits on it. traced to probable bad gasket on exhaust water gasket or head gasket. Fixed and all seemed well. Now that same plug seems to maybe have a lean condition. The plug is dryer then the others as far as oil on it...

    Trolling motor on McKee Craft

17 foot Offshore Fisherman. Trying to figure out how to run power up to it. Boat is like a BW, in that it is foam filled. Should I route out a channel and then go back with a repair? Or just surface mount wiring?

Fuel consumption of a 150-175 Johnson Ocean runner(Carbed)

May upgrade boat and would need a motor. Nothing expensive and I like the ease of maintenance on the old 2 strokes. Anybody have any fuel burn numbers of a 150-175 on a 20-21 foot center console. How many gallons per hour at 4000-5000 rpm. I know every boat will produce different number but...

Adding voltage regulator to 1996 88 special?

Ok, so my 1996 88 special has just the round rectifier on it and I have burned up a battery in one season from the voltages going north of 17 volts while running for long periods at high rpm's. So i found a voltage regulator off a used johnson that the guy at the marine store says will work on...

    115 Johnson overheat

1983 115 that has new waterpump kit but not much other history. Overheat alarm sounds and heads are very hot to the touch after just a few minutes of running at idle in the water. Water coming from pee hole is very cold cold( seawater temp is around 48). T- Stats are supposed to be new...

Motor runs better with fuel primer disconnected.

Ok so yesterday I was going from the ramp to a dock to get some bait and while waiting on my buddy at the dock i noticed a drip coming from under the powerhead. I popped the cowl and saw a fuel leak from around the plastic fuel manifold. Motor is a 1996 88 Special V-4. So I though it was...

    Removing exhaust cover

Ok, I'am going to remove the exhaust cover on my 88 Special( bottom plugs seem to be getting alittle water on them, another thread). the lower bolt heads are rusted. They are not rounded off but the one I tried putting a socket on seemed ripe for a quick round off and then what? It looks...

bottom plugs pretty dry after running

Just changed head gasket(another thread) and have improved appearance of bottom right plug(it was covered in salt deposits before gasket change). But that plug is still kinda dry looking when I checked it(boat sat overnight from running on Sunday). To compare I checked the port side bottom...
