    Hub Installation

I'm buying a new prop for my 1967 3hp Folding Johnson motor. The 2 blade prop comes with the hub and cushion ring separate from the prop. The seller says it all goes together by hand - doesn't have to be pressed in with a machine. My question is: does the hub need to be glued in? If so, what glue?

Picked up a folding Johnson today!

I bought a nice 1967 3hp folding Johnson today WITH the suitcase for $80! Compression is 80 and 85psi after 6 pulls, and it has new coils, points, condensers, impeller. Someone left stinky old gas in it, so I'll clean out the tank, rebuild the carb and replace the fuel lines. I notice on the...

    '52-'54 3hp Evinrude Just won't do anything

Well, I picked up a beautiful old 3hp Lightwin today. It has great compression - 80psi on both cylinders, and great spark on both cylinders - looks like newer coils, points, condensers. I put in some new plugs. The engine obviously has had little use in it's 55+ year life. I haven't cleaned the...

    Impeller on 3hp Folding Evinrude/Johnson?

Where is the water pump/impeller on the 3hp folding outboards? Is it similar to the non-folding models? I'm just wondering, if it folds it must be above the hinge, as the water tube can't fold. Thinking of buying one I saw on Craigs List.

Latest Project - Saved from the Junkpile

Here's some pics of my latest project - a 1955 Johnson RD17E which is about ready for another 55 years. I still have to find an original dash plate and solenoid box, but she fires up fine with the wiring harness I've fabricated. Converted to 12 volts but other than that, all original. I even...

    Pressure Tank Paint Color

I remember an old post about a Duplicolor close match for the red paint on the old OMC pressure tanks. Anyone remember what color it was? (I searched and searched - couldn't find it)

Wiring Diagram for 1955 Johnson 25hp

Does anyone have an accurate wiring diagram for a 1955 Johnson 25hp Electric Start? It was a 6 volt system. The manuals I have don't show anything for a 6 volt system. I'm not sure how the mercury switch wires into the start system, which is just a push button. On later motors it connected to a...

Selectric Shift - Long Shaft to Short Shaft

Just wondering if I can switch my long shaft 1964 Lark with Selectric Shift by just switching out the driveshaft, shortening the water tubes and removing the extension like on a mechanical shift motor?

    1964 Evinrude Lark - Done!

Well, I finally got this motor done. Replaced the fuel pump and that fixed the lousy running/lean sneeze. Now she runs like a dream. Now that I got her running, I tested the Selectric Shift. It shifts fine! Got her all painted and she's ready to go. Another old classic rescued from the trash!

1964 Evinrude Lark - Running Lousy - what fuel pump?

Well, I think my problem is the fuel pump. The plastic assembly is cracked and the diaphragm doesn't look that good either. I don't see one listed here on IBoats. Does anyone know if any of the ones listed will work with this motor? The plastic part that's cracked has a part number: 310167. 1964...

1964 Evinrude Lark - Runs, but lousy

Well, I finally got this 40hp Lark out and running today, well sort of. It started very hard and won't idle worth a darn. I've replaced everything under the flywheel, and rebuilt the carb. I finally got it to keep running, but with a terrible lean sneeze. No matter where I set the low speed...

What Is It? From 1964 Lark 40hp

Hopefully this will be my last question on this motor. When I got the motor, the transom clamp was not attached to the motor. As I was re-installing the clamp assembly, this spring fell out from somewhere. Any idea what it is and where it goes? It is painted blue so it must be an external part.

1964 Lark holes below exhaust relief

1964 Lark with Selectric shift. There are two small holes below the exhaust relief port, about 1/4 inch diameter, in a vertical configuration. What are they for, and why has someone closed them off with silicone caulk?

    Goodyear Evinrude Sportwin?

I'm fixing up an outboard for a friend. The cowl is an Evinrude Sportwin 10hp, and the welsh plug lists the model number as 10012, which would be 1956. However, the plate on the transom mount says "Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company" Model 2253609. Anyway, I'm looking for a lower unit seal kit and...

1964 Lark 6? Model number question

This 1964 Evinrude I've been working on has a Lark 6 Cowl on it. However, the powerhead, lower cowl and leg are all painted Polychromatic blue, and it looks original. Lark should be gray. The generator looks like it has been added, as the mounting bracket is white. The model number and serial...

1964 Lark 6 Safety Switch question.

Got the wiring all figured out on the Lark, and have a question on the Safety Switch. From the looks of the wiring, it appears the safety switch functions in the same way as the old mercury switch? If the throttle advances too far, it grounds the solenoid preventing the starter from turning. Is...

    1964 Lark 6 Choke Questions

Well, I bought a '64 Lark 6 and been tearing into it. Question on the "hot air" choke. Does thist type choke require a choke switch on the dash? The wiring diagram shows a choke switch with a red wire from the accessory terminal on the key switch, and a red/white stripe wire going to the choke...
