    If the V4's are prone to break piston rings, then it sounds like they aren't worth shopping for. Why didn't you mention the common breaking ring issue here?

    I've read threads where ones say the V4's are prone to rings breaking - catching on the cylinder walls where there's openings. . Is there anything I can do to minimize that happening? Like an additive like yamalube or mixing a stronger oil to fuel ratio, or....?

    I took a vacuum tester and hooked it up to the line that goes from the fuel pump to the carburetor bowls. Pumped it up to 20 and let it sit for 5 minutes. It didn't drop pressure one bit.

    I ordered a shop manual from eBay today. I still think it's air/fuel related, but I'm just going to go through everything from spark to stator. I figure if I'm at 120 compression, good lower unit, and as clean as this motor is.... Might as well.
